Chapter Eight
Luke didnt wait for her reply, he was already punching numbers into his phone. Annora noticed he had already gotten dressed in jeans and a snug black tee. Luke snapped his fingers and pointed to her room while he put the phone to his ear.
Annora didnt question him, she knew if Luke said they had to go then they better get going, and fast. Rushing to her room to pack her clothes she heard Luke add, "Pack light!"
What the hell was going on? Annora tried to stay calm, this wasnt the time to freak out. They'd done this plenty of times before but it still unnerved her.
She grabbed her small duffle bag and started throwing in basic clothes and necessities.
Right before she zipped it closed Luke came into her room, he already had his own backpack slung over his shoulder.
Without a word he grabbed her hand and rushed her out of the room towards the front door.
Once they were outside he let her go, "Cmon we dont have much time," he stressed practically running to the car.
Shit this has got to be bad.
As soon as Annora shut her door, they were off.
"Tell me whats going on Luke."
Luke turned to look at her, concern clear on his face. That scared the crap out of her. Even in bad situations Luke was always calm and collected.
He gave her a wierd look before turning back to the road.
"We're ganna have to meet the guys later on. It's not safe here anymore." was all he said.
"Why not? Who called?"
They were hitting the on ramp for the interstate now and Luke was driving way over the speed limit. She trusted him not to wreck the car but high speeds like that still made her nervous. Clicking the seat belt into place she waited for him to give her some kind of explanation.
She knew Luke didnt like to scare her and constantly would keep things away from her if he felt she couldnt handle it, which was all the time.
It pissed her off but she understood.
Luke had a death grip on the steering wheel, poor thing looked like it was ready to snap off any minute.
"Luke!" she snapped.
No reply.
She tried getting to his mind to hear what he was thinking. He blocked her and gave her a warning growl.
"Luke you have to tell me something! Are the guys ok? Where are they?"
She felt close to tears. Please let them be okay.
Luke grabbed her hand and gave it a tight squeeze. "Just let me get us out of here and then I'll explain" he reasured her. Luke didnt let go of her hand but instead moved it to his lap. Annora nodded her head and kept quiet. Luke looked nervous, his eyes kept shifting to the woods on either side of the interstate.
They were heading in the opposite direction of Blue Moon.
The guys were close to they're territory, scoping out the area and the packs patrol routes. God she hoped they were okay. They were all excellent fighters but that didnt stop her from worrying about them. Annora was closest to Luke, but Kyle and Liam were her friends too. She wasnt really close to Michael, he was too serious and unapproachable. He never warmed up to anyone. Luke could be scary as hell when he wanted to be but he didnt use his intimidating attitude towards them unless he had too. Liam was the same. Kyle on the other hand was completely carefree, hardly ever serious. That guy could probably joke his way out of anything.
Smiling at that thought she giggled and snuggled into the seat. she didnt know how long they would be on the road. Luke gave her a sidways glance, seeing the smile on her face he relaxed a little and gave her hand another squeeze. When he focused back on the road, Annora noticed the shadow of a grin on his face. She was so glad she had found Luke that day in the woods. It was hard enough being a rouge, add being a she-wolf, alone, it wasnt a good mix. Annora hadn't known where other packs were or which were the biggest or most hostile and would have ended up trespassing and getting herself caught or killed. Annora was a good fighter for a she-wolf, Luke had taught her alot since she meet him. As much danger as they had faced it was impossible to not get into fights along the way. They happened more than Annora would like but it was the way of things. Annora had never understood before why all the rouges she'd ever seen back at Imperial were so hostile and ferial. She knew now though, it was because they didn't have a choice. Everyone was their enemy. Packs, other rouges, they all meant them harm. Luke's group was an average size. Alot of rouges traveled in groups of five or six, others alone or in groups of two sometimes three. All rouges had a bad reputation, and honestly they deserved it. Annora had done things she wasn't proud of but hadn't had any other choice at the time.
Annora wasn't sure when she dozed off, when Luke woke her up it was dark outside the car.
Luke had already gotten out and made his way to the passenger side.
" Are you hungry?" he asked opening her door.
On cue her stomach growled causing her to blush up at him guiltily.
Luke laughed, " I'll take that as a yes then. Cmon," he said holding out his hand to help her out.
Annora yawned and streched, giving her surroundings a once over. They were in a Burger King parking lot. Where she had no idea. She followed Luke inside to order. She wasn't big on fast food but she hadn't ate since breaktfast that morning.
Annora let out a low moan. This burger was so good. She laughed with Luke at her reaction. Sobering up she asked, "So, you said you'd explain. What's going on?"
Luke sighed and took a drink of his coke before answering. "Dont freak out ok?"
Annora nodded her head. She tried to compose her features and appear relaxed when in reality she was a wreaking ball of nerves on the inside with worry for the boys.
Luke narrowed his eyes at her. Guess her ruse wasn't holding up as good as she thought.
"Turns out a war is coming,"
Annora sat up straighter at his words.
"Guess the Alpha of Blue Moon pissed the Alpha from Red Fang Pack off pretty bad. Rumor is they're attacking. The area is about to be filled with wolfs ready for a fight."
Annora's eyes widened in shock. Kyle and Liam were there! They were about to be trapped in the middle of a war!
Realizing Annora was about to have a full fledged panic attack, Luke got up and slided into her side of the booth.
"I told you not to freak out," he said in a hard tone but the emotion didnt reach his eyes. he was looking at her with understanding which meant he was just as worried about the others as she was. Annora wished she had Luke's control, but after what happened two years ago, her worst fear was losing someone close to her. Annora buried her head in Lukes chest when he put his arms around her.
"They might have gotten out. As soon as I got the tip I called and warned Liam."
Annora sighed into his chest. She closed her eyes tight and prayed the others got out of there alive.
