Chapter One

Sixteen years later....

"Annora!!!"

Annora flinched, dropping the bowl she had been carrying. Scowling at the mess, she bent down to pick it up.

"ANNORA!!!"

Sighing, she put the mess behind her and continued up the stairs. Opening the door to the Alpha's quarters, she found a red faced Alpha Robert glaring daggers at her. Lowering her gaze she asked, "What can I do for you, Alpha?"

Alpha Robert grunted before moving closer to the bed.

"Which one?" he demanded.

Moving closer to investigate, she smiled, "The red one Alpha."

"Your sure?" he asked again.

Helping him with the tie she answered, "Yes, its very professional. You look nice."

He growled and shook his head, "I don't do nice, and I don't like wearing so many clothes, its restraining."

Annora couldn't help but laugh at his disgruntled expression. The Alpha was to have a meeting with a few government officials today to discuss buying a small reserve bordering the pack's land. Since the reserve had recently come on to the market, the Alpha felt it was time to expand their territory.

Finished with the tie, she stepped back bowing her head once again, waiting for further instruction.

Pleased with his appearance, he stepped closer to her. Annora stiffened at his approach. He made her uncomfortable. He gently cupped her cheek, forcing her gaze to his.

"Annora," he said. Leaning in to inhaled her sent, softly nuzzling his head in the crock of her neck.

"Yes Alpha?" she whispered, trying to keep the fear from her voice.

Lifting his head, he gave her a hard stare. "How many times do I have to tell you to call me Robert?"

Giving him a tight smile, she replied, "I'm sorry. I'll remember next time."

After studying her face for a moment, he stepped back.

"Well, come along then. I don't have all day"

Following him out of the room, they began down the stairs. Alpha Robert stopped and turned to her again, cocking an eyebrow he said, "What is this?" motioning to the mess covering the stairs.

Annora blushed, "I-I.. dropped a bowl on my way up. I'm sorry Al-Robert I'll clean it up right away."

After narrowing his eyes, he continued descending the stairs, "Be sure that you do, and Annora?"

"Yes Robert?"

"I'm having a few of the men over tonight. We have a few things to discuss, so have enough food prepared."

"Yes Robert."

When she heard the front door close, she sighed with relief. She never knew what to expect from him. His attentions made her uneasy, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it. Alpha Robert had saved her life when she was just a pup, taking her in. She had been abandoned in the woods on his territory. Alpha Robert said they had looked for her mother, but no one ever came looking for her. He'd made it very clear she would one day repay him for his kindness, by becoming his wife. Annora had lived here in the mansion with him for as long as she could remember. She wasn't allowed to socialize with the pack, other than with her childhood nanny Michelle. Annora knew it was so she wouldn't find her mate.
