Chapter Sixteen
Annora's POV
Why didn't he kiss me goodbye? Just one measly kiss is all I wanted. To know what it felt like to have his lips pressed against mine.
I sighed, didnt matter now I guess. It was easier this way. I had to find Luke and the guys and make sure they were okay. Im sure they got away but I still couldnt help but worry.
I looked down at the black shirt I had on. It was his. Grasping it, I held it to my nose inhaling his scent.
Earth and cinnamon.
My heart sank, if only things were different and I could stay and love that dark devil with every fiber in my being but I was a hunted girl.
I wondered how old he was. Centries ago wolves had been immortal, but after so many generations of mating with humans, bloodlines had begun to diminish. We still aged alot slower than humans but we were no longer immortal. We aged normal until we reached our prime of eighteen or twenty. The purer your bloodline the longer you remained young and strong. a few immortal wolves still exsisted, we were taught about the ancent ones in training. Wolves with the purest bloodlines could still live to be hundreds of years old and look as young as they did in the first thirty years. Because of all the wars alot of our kind had been killed off leaving the younger weaker generations to pick up the pieces and still the wars continued over any little thing. Men and their stupid pride.
Alpha Robert had been in his late thirties but looked no older than twenty one in human years. I shuddered thinking of the monster, the reminder of why I had to run.
I got up from the bed and searched for some shorts, sweats, anything to cover my naked bottom. Yea that bastard had slept with me half naked. If he was still here I'd punch his stupid face again. I chuckled at the visual images in my head and threw on a pair of basketball shorts. They were a little big so I tied the drawstring as tight as I could to keep them from falling. I walked to the door and threw it open ready to be on my way and was confronted by three very large, very fierce looking men who I instantly knew were wolves. no way could these men be human. One, a very handsome light haired man with big bulky shoulders and piercing blue eyes smiled and winked at me. Honestly he looked like a viking, I could easily picture him sailing and conquering the world, raining hell down on unsuspecting villagers. Yeesh, where all his warriors this massively intimidating? Poor Blue Moon.
I cursed and slammed the door making the men chuckle. How had I not sensed them there? Agh! Well at least the mighty Alpha was smart enough to post guards at my door. But.... I wondered heading to the balcony, was he smart enough to post them below?
Fucking shit!
Of course he did.
Did he really have to make this so difficult? The balcony was still my best option. I doubted the two laughing men below expected a woman to fall from the sky. Id at least have suprise on my side. I wouldnt be able to shift but since I was fully healed I'd still be fast as lightning. once I had a chance to shift into my wolf I was as good as gone. They wouldn't stand a chance.
My wolf was wimpering, dreading what I was about to do but I tried to make her realize we needed to do this, keep innocent people out of harms way. I had to go, Lucian wouldnt rest until I told him who marked me. The claim would only disapear if Robert died or my true mate claimed me replacing his mark. But for Lucian to do that I'd have to tell me. Then he'd know and want to start a war over me, his mistreated mate. Please, no more wolves would die for me. Maybe one day I can come back. I dreaded thinking of him mated to another woman but I'd understand, as much as it would hurt I'd leave him alone to be happy. Silently crouched on the edge of the railing I waited for the perfect moment to jump. As soon as they were laughing again I jumped, hearing a startled curse I ran as if the devil himself was on my heels, which ironically wasn't far from the truth. I ran as fast as I could through the field behind the hotel towards the trees, towards freedom.
"Luke? Luke where are you?" I yelled in my head. Please answer before these demons get me.
I was almost to the trees and hearing bones popping behind me I knew one or both were shifting. Lunging forward I shredded through Lucian's clothes and thundered into the woods. Hearing growls I had to grin.
Catch me now bitches.

The night before.....
Luke's POV
Where the fuck was she? I'd searched for hours to no avail. The rain pouring down was masking her scent and the trail had gone cold hours ago. I would not give up. Annora was the most important thing in my miserable life. I hadn't been able to save Lillian all those years ago but I would save and protect Annora to my last breath.
My wolf was in a panic, fighting to take control but I had to keep a clear head. Images of Lillian's broken body assaulted my mind. No, that won't happen again, I won't lose her too.
I skidded to a hault. It was so faint I almost missed it but I caught her scent. Running full speed in that driection, it took everything I had not to howl out in pain when I smelt the blood. No, Annora No!
I'd been trying for hours to get into her mind but she had me blocked. I refused to believe she was gone. She had to of blocked me afraid I'd come after her and get hurt, that's what it was. She wasn't gone.
Who could hurt her? Annora was the definition of pure and innocent. All she did was care. Out of all the shit that bastard had put her through, all the hardships of being a rogue, never had she complained, not once. Who could harm a girl that radiated life and happiness?
Laying on my belly, I slowly inched forward. Wimpering I nudged the blood covering the ground. Because of the rain I didnt know who had done it or how serious it was but I couldnt deny she was hurt. Kyle came through the trees then whining at the sight of Annora's blood covering the cold ground. I closed my eyes to fight the raged emotions inside me. I felt my heart break realizing she could really be gone and it was all my fault. If I had just kept her by my side she'd be ok. Here with me now, keeping the memories away and yelling at me for dragging her to that damn club in the first place.
I howled into the night. My voice filled with sorrow and longing. Kyle leaned his head into my shoulder, a silent gesture of comfort.
I won't give up Annora. I'll find you, I swear.
