Hiking your way up the grassy slope towards the ranch, you took in the wonderful clean air of the country. The soft waves of air tangled itself into your (h/c) hair, bringing with it bits of dandelion fluff and seeds from the forest beyond. Going in any direction it pleased, it lingered around your form, enjoying your presence for a few more fleeting moments before swooping off to explore the lands of Hyrule. It brought life to your lips, turing them up at the corners and warming your soul. How you wished you could change places with the wind. It was free... Unlike you.
What little joy it brought was quickly doused in anxiety as your fingers found themselves traveling up to grasp the small jewel around your neck. To say Ghirahim's visit rattled you to the core would be an understatement. You didn't get much sleep afterwords either. All you could do was process all the recent events, thinking up millions of possible explanations for his actions. What did he mean by 'everything is going to change?!' And what was this crystal for anyway?! A form of communication? Protection? WHAT!?
A small tint of red clouded your vision as your blood pumped profusely in anger and frustration. That horror crept into your gut once more. That rage! Running your hand through your hair, more like pulling it, your tried to stay calm and bury that monster inside you. Instead of confronting it, your turned tail and ran! Right now this wasn't a beast you were willing to face. Even after all those years of being the chosen hero, nothing prepared you for what lurked in the darkest recesses of your heart... Or lack of one that is.
After fleeing the internal twilight, you took a deep breath and continued up the slope, deciding to remove your shoes and feel the cool grass between your toes. At least one bit of you would feel free. Focusing at the task at hand, you made it to the top next to the old wooden fence of the ranch. In the distance you could see Link herding in the goats with precision on Epona. You grinned to yourself. Seeing the chosen hero of the goddess leading a normal farm life in the backwoods of Hyrule seemed to give you hope. He managed a glance in your direction and instantly beamed with bright sapphire eyes. Letting out a great 'whoop' with the twirl of a hand, he rushed in the last few goats before galloping at high speeds towards the fence.
You didn't even flinch as he turned at the last second to race past you. Chuckling at his terrible attempt to get your feathers ruffled, you just threw him a short salute to mock him. He threw back his head dramatically in his failure, and continued to trot around the pasture before getting the idea to impress you. In high speeds and daring turns, Link decided to practice his hurdles... or show off his horse riding talents in other words.
He managed to keep the grin on your face, and the occasional surprised glance at his stunts. You were so wrapped up in his performance you didn't care to notice the presence beside you, "Incredible, isn't he?"
You jumped at the voice, jolting to face your visitor and praying it wasn't 'Zant.' At the sight of bright eyes and wispy hair, your fear fizzled away replaced by a polite grin. She was just another one of the younger village members, but the oldest of the children. The innocence was clear behind her features, a state you would have sold... you would say your soul, but you knew all too well how that already felt... It was just a state you could envy from afar.
Your wandering mind was shook back to the present when she spoke again, "So... You're his long lost girlfriend that everyone is talking about."
"Oh, no! I'm not his girlfriend!" You laughed more to yourself at the vision playing out in your head, "I'm more of his... 'partner in crime.'"
Her eyes narrowed in suspicion, "Riiiiiight..." She stuck out her hand as a friendly gesture, "I'm Ilia."
Taking it, you smiled a bit brighter, "____."
