Going through the Forest Temple you felt waves of nostalgia hit you as you worked alongside Link to find your way through the maze of tricks and puzzles. The people who built theses things sure had to be creative in coming up with diabolical traps to keep people like you out. Thankfully though, being the chosen heroes often brought strokes of luck along with it, and the temple didn't last as long as you had remembered them being when you were sixteen. Freeing about eight or nine monkeys in the process, they helped you cross an extremely deep canyon and find the key to the last room where the fabled Fused Shadow was stored.

As anticipated, bars of this wood locked you inside to face the beast that guarded its dangerous treasure. Two great heads of dark plants with razor sharp fangs emerged from a pool of acid poison, dripping and drooling at the sight of two humans in it's presence. Diababa spat hissing streams of acid at you, hovering about waiting for the opportunity to strike like a snake. In the end the only thing that brought it's heads closer was stunning it with exploding bugs. Link's aim was true and perfect every time, the years of rust on the edges of the hero falling away. That familiar adrenaline of fighting a boss surged through you, and felt wonderful! Activating the warrior you almost forgot about all these years.

As the head fell to the ground, you wold twirl your saber and mutilate whatever came your way. Slice off the tongue, the tips of it's face, your blade cracking against the hard skeleton underneath. That red mist covered your sight for a few moments as you plunged your blade through it's skull, adoring the sickening crack it made under your weight. it was only when you took a few tired steps back, that you regained some of yourself back, the mist disappearing to reveal your figure, bloodied and scratched and covered in a thick purple goo. Blinking a few times, you rubbed your eyes, feeling that rage you felt not long ago slowly subsiding and the fear of what you'd just done eat at your conscious. What was happening to you!? You barely had any control over what you were doing in a fight anymore, killing was your only aim...

You shivered and knelt down to wipe your blade clean as Link came up behind you, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder as he walked forward to the remains of the monster, quickly shriveling in death and leaving behind something pulsing with a dark aura. It looked like it was made of a stone, turquoise power traveling up it in ancient runes.

"Eee hee hee!" Midna piped up from under Link's shadow, "Well done! That's what I was looking for. That's a Fused Shadow. It's what the light spirit called dark power..."

Dark power huh?... As the relic floated in front of you, pulsing with magic, you couldn't help but wonder what it did. If it was so powerful that it had to be sealed away, then why in the world was it safe for you to be trying to use it!? Something inside you felt like you were helping Ghirahim rather than matching his power, like this was his plan all along, as if he was leaving you to do all his dirty work. He would get you to gather powerful relics then steal it from you for his own gain... It would make sense. If he needed you and Link back together on the 'hero track,' then that must mean he was using you. You sighed, and would have felt an overwhelming sense of dread if your heart wasn't a large cavity.

"Could it really be so easy?" Midna asked as she grabbed the relic to keep safely beside her.

You scoffed under your breath. You doubted it. It was never that easy to gain anything in the world of heroism.

Midna chirped, floating in her shadow form as she counted on her fingers, "There's a total of three Fused Shadows. I think the other light spirits have the rest... The closest one's in Eldin. I guess you'd better do your best to find them, huh? Eee hee hee!" She disappeared underneath Link with a giggle.

Link turned to you with a shrug, looking about as exhausted as you felt, "Looks like we're headed to Eldin, again." he sheathed his sword and cocked his head to the side, "Come on. We could use a good night's rest before we try to cross the open country."
