Stephanie's point of view:
I walked out of class still red in the face. What made me feel even more embarrassed is what Dylan had said was true. Well at least the part about my family have not having a lot of money. I did however have the phone, I just choose not to use it like some people do. I'd much rather have sat down and read them be on my phone. Especially since it was only a flip phone.
" Hey Steffie!" Said my friend Anna as she walked up to me. She had bright red hair and lots of freckles. She smiled her biggest 'I'm a nerd with braces and I don't care what you think' look. She had perfected that look and also to prove she and care what people thought, she regularly danced in the hallways.
" Hey Annie, how was gym?"
" Great! We played dodgeball and dominated the field. I also accidentally" note the air quotes, " hit Kevin in the face with a dodgeball." Kevin was a guy that had pulled her ponytail the year before and man did she hold a grudge.
" Sounds pretty productive. I got laughed at by my class so my day is going great." I smiled in the way only she knew I was feeling hurt.
" Who do I need to beat up? I need to beat the crap out of them now while my my rage is still keeping me for making rational decisions!" Her nostrils flared and her face was kind of a mix between a smile and a glare. She's my best friend and way too overprotective, but I love her.
" Dylan just called me poor, it's no big deal. He's right you know."
By that time we had reached the cafeteria for lunch. She threw her stuff at our normal spot. Then she left without saying a word. I honestly figured for Dillons life at that moment. Anna can be pretty unpredictable so I didn't know what she had planned.
Then I heard a cry of pain from the hallway. I got up and sprinted through the cafeteria doors to find my best friend pinning Dillon to the ground and slapping him.
" That's why you should be nice to my best friend!" And as if to put the cherry on top she punched him in the nose, hard. It made a cracking noise and then started bleeding.
The principal arrived and so did the school nurse. The nurse rushed to Dylan's aid. When she tried to touch his nose he ended up yelling a string of profanity, which earned him a glare from the principal.
"Who's responsible for this?" Anna walked up smiling as if she were proud of herself, which she was.
" I did it because he trashed talked about my friend. I think I taught him a good lesson. Oh by the way, his nose is broken," Then Mrs. Kewen, our principal, dragged her by the arm to the office. Believe it or not she was still smiling brightly.
The nurse had picked up Dylan and helped him to the nurse's station. He whimpered as he went down the hall secretly I felt bad for him, but I was also proud to have a best friend that would beat the crap out of somebody for me.
"Dude your best friend is bomb!" Said my crush, Holden Senic. I stood there dumbfounded. I attempted to say something but only a puff of air came out. He took a little and smiled brightly he was so perfect blue eyes, fine face, and and ......
"Hello?" His perfect hands snapping at me finally awakened the fact that I needed to say something.
"Hi, um, how are you?" My eyes darted around looking at his face to see if I had said the right thing. To my surprise he smiled and chortled a little.
" Good, how are you?" That's when I seriously choked up. I hadn't thought of what to say if he answered me.
" Good now that you're talking to me, I mean you're nice but not like that, I mean it's just your so cute and..... Good, thanks for asking." Then he just smiled and laughed at me.
" Well, I've got to get to Geometry before I'm late, but I'll see you around Stephanie." He then proceeded to smile at me and walked off to his class. Man those tight t-shirts made his muscles look so hot.
My thoughts were interrupted by my friend, Timothy's, persistent calling
"What do you want! I'm busy. "
" Doing what staring at Holden?" He chuckled to himself and watched me turn as red as a parakeet. He was my closest guy friend ever and, like Anna, could basically read my mind. It's kind of annoying sometimes, but I have to deal with it.
"No!"
" Liar, you have that stupid He's so hot face on. I can read you like an open book." He laughed again.
"Then what am I thinking right now?" I glared at him with my very best You should be very scared of me right now look.
" Steph! Watch your language we're at school!" Then we both started to laugh until we cried.
Unfortunately for us the Bell decided to finally ring and made us both late for English. We walked into the class as if we weren't being stirred up by about 60 eyes.
Whoever said Saved by the Bell was wrong considering we both got tardies and we got assumptions of what we were doing in the hall. Anyways that was the beginning of a very long era of sadness.
