Piper was lying face first on her bed in her room. At this point, she was a bit depressed. This quest was taking a lot out of her. Already, the ship had been attacked four times in the past hour. First, there were an angry army of mountain spirits, then there were those Empousa who tried to raid their food supply, then about a thousand harpies, and then some more mountain spirits. All Piper wanted to do was get some sleep, even if it was only for one hour. She had never been so exhausted in her life!
Piper snuggled deeper into the covers. She was so tired...
There was a knock on her door. An embarrassing snort sounded from Piper's throat as she snapped out of her dreamless sleep. She had no idea about how long she was out, but she could tell that it was the most sleep that she had gotten in the past few days. Piper groaned and told the person to go away, but the person was steady knocking.
Slithering her way out of the beckoning blankets of her bed, she trudged to the door. Right now, she was ready to yell at the person there who dared to ruin her sleep. Her heart sped up at the thought that her boyfriend, Jason, would be at the door. Lately, he had been especially sweet to her and she was slowly getting Percy out of her head.
Percy... she didn't even want to think about him anymore.
Groaning again, she turned the knob of the wooden door in front of her and her heart dropped in her chest when she saw who was standing there. It was the boy she was trying to push out of her head for the past five years. It was Percy.
Percy smiled barely at Piper, "Hi."
The daughter of Aphrodite released her breath that she didn't realize that she had been holding. "Hi," she croaked back.
Percy blew out air, "This is really awkward, so let's not make it awkward, okay? We need to talk."
"About what?" Piper asked, playing dumb and trying to put on a blank expression. Thankfully, he didn't notice the acting part.
Percy hesitated before looking up and down the hallways of the corridor, "Can I come in first?"
Piper thought it over. She desperately wanted to know what he wanted, but she most certainly would not let Percy in her room, not when he didn't even remember her. To him, Piper was a near stranger. Being in a stranger's room was weird, really weird.
"Uh, I guess," she finally said. "Yeah."
Percy's heart thrashed in his chest as he quickly scanned the room before he sat himself in a chair by the desk. The room was nearly vacant. The walls were a boring navy blue color all around, the only source of light being a tall lamp by her bedside. There was a pile of clothes on the other side of the bed as well as a pair of beat-down, monster dust infested shoes in front of her bed. His thoughts then trailed to her trusty knife, Katoptris, which he didn't see. Then, he began to think about what he would be eating tonight...
Percy, focus! he internally screamed at himself. Gods, his ADHD was a serious nuisance. It's not even funny.
Piper pulled up a chair about ten feet away from Percy. She felt the need to keep her distance from him, because if she didn't, she would crumble and start crying in mourning for the best friend she used to have that is now either ignoring her or doesn't have any recollection of her at all.
"Well," she asked, trying to push back the upcoming crack in her voice. "What do you need to talk about?"
"Have we met before?"
Piper's heart stopped. She dreaded this. It only took another second of silence for Piper to realize how tired she was. Not just physically this time, but mentally. She had been through too much, and now this? Yes, she had always wanted to see Percy again. Yes, she was terribly distraught when her best friend of eight years was ignoring/not remembering her. Yes, she wanted to talk to Percy.
