Again. He is gone again.
It's been, what, fourteen days since Annabeth and Percy fell into that stupid hole in into Tartarus? There's no way they could survive Tartarus. It's Tartarus, the most horrible place in all of hell where the most evilly rotten spirits and gods and Titans spend eternity being tortured and punished. The chances that either one of them would come back alive and well was impossible and incredulous. It wasn't happening, and this is what was killing her.
Piper didn't think she could survive one more heartbreak, but here she was bearing through the powerful ache in her chest. How this one boy managed to do this to her over and over again appalled her. This was just too much.
But the thing that surprised her was the note. A few days ago, there was a note sent to Camp Half-Blood with a message on it: a message from Annabeth. Piper didn't know how it was possible. They should have died the moment they got somewhere near the bottom of the pit. No one could believe it. Then again, this is Annabeth we are talking about. She could always get herself out of a sticky situation.
Desperation to get their friends back, the crew decided to follow the order on the note. Annabeth gave them a location and an estimated date. We decided to go with what she said. The mission would be in vain without the most intelligent daughter of Athena ever and the only son of Poseidon in fifty years. They really had no choice but to follow the note's orders. Either way it goes, it's all or nothing.
[Four days later]
Piper really didn't know how to feel. Percy's back, but he's... different. He's been keeping a distance away from Annabeth, and she, vice verse. It's almost like how Piper and Percy were after he regained his memories. She wondered what the case was, but she didn't dare confront anyone about it. Piper was ashamed on her crush on Percy, knowing that he has a girlfriend and she has a boyfriend. It's not something anyone should be proud of. It's shameless and just plain wrong. The last thing that Piper wanted to do was play either boy and becoming like a lot of her brothers and sisters who tended to do things like that for a hobby.
Sighing, Piper made her way out of Hazel's room and into the kitchen for some food because she was starving. It was very awkward because Annabeth was also in there, now that she had returned from that spider prison. Hazel thought it would be a good idea to try and get to know Annabeth a bit, since they never made any real effort before. Reluctantly, Piper agreed and they talked and all, but it was horrible. Annabeth didn't reveal much, Piper didn't reveal anything, nor did Hazel, really. They should have known that their "girl time" was going to be doomed from the start.
With a grin on her face, Piper admired her work. She had managed to make the perfect sandwich; toasted bread with melted cheese and warm lunch meat with lettuce and mayonnaise. She stuck her whole head into the refrigerator for a while, searching for something tasty to drink. Her head had been stuck in the fridge for probably thirty seconds before she came out with a can of soda.
When she turned back to her plate, she noticed that there had been a giant bite taken out of her sandwich. Furious and shocked, Piper spun around and saw Percy's head peeking around the corner of the kitchen counter, only his newly turned dry black hair and green eyes showing. He finally got up from his pathetic hiding spot and held his hands up in defense and slowly sauntered over to her.
"Okay, I'm sorry," he said cautiously. "That sandwich looked gorgeous. I couldn't resist."
She didn't know how to react at first. Piper's feelings were too conflicted right now. Well, if Percy's going to act nonchalantly, then why shouldn't I?
"You could have just asked for me to make you a sandwich, you know, instead of eating mine behind my back," she said, her fists on her hips.
Percy shrugged, his heart, unknowingly to Piper, nearly beating out of his chest at the sight of the daughter of Aphrodite. She's just too much for him; too pretty and too perfect. He hated how her eyes turned colors all the time. He hated how her smile was one of the prettiest smiles he'd ever seen. He hated how her hair was unruly yet perfect at the same time. He hated how her skin was the perfect mixture between dark and light. Most of all, though, he hated the way he reacted when he remembered everything.
"I don't think you'd have let me have it."
He was right. She wouldn't have.
"Piper, I'm sorry," Percy continued, saving her the time. He needed to go ahead and get this off of his chest. "I'm so, so sorry about how I acted all those days ago. When I fell into Tartarus with Annabeth, I had so much time to think things over. What I did was horrible and I was inconsiderate to how you were feeling about everything. When I remembered, I freaked and chickened out."
"You're right. You were completely inconsiderate to how I was feeling."
"Yes, I know. I don't know how many times I'll have to say it before you'll forgive me. Piper, I'm so sorry," Percy groveled. He was now standing right in front of the obviously uncomfortable girl. He would say sorry a million times if he had to. He owed it to her.
"It's not just about forgiveness, Percy! Percy, I had literally spent my whole life with you! We were best friends for years. I could forgive you at any second, but at the end of the day, I'll never forget how I felt when yo-you... neglected me!"
Piper found herself crying. Gods, why did she always have to cry? All these years that Piper had spent trying to master her crying urges, she would still loose all control when it came to Percy. It had always been that way. She was always vulnerable with him, but comfortably vulnerable. She knew that she could trust her lifelong best friend with anything... but of course, that all changed when she found out that Percy had never died.
Percy saw Piper crying and he inwardly cursed himself, tugging fiercely at his hair. He came here to apologize to Piper and what did he do? He made her cry, that's what! He's always been a royal screw-up at everything. She was sobbing harder and harder as he stared at her, his mind yelling at him to hug her and tell her that everything could go back to normal, just like how things were before he left her. He could save the world, but he can't save a girl from crying. This is just getting more and more pathetic for him, and to the point where he had nothing else to lose.
Without thinking about it, Percy grabbed Piper's face between his big hands and smashed his lips to hers. Piper was too shocked to do anything at first. One second, she was sobbing, the next, she was kissing the son of Poseidon, but most importantly, her ex best friend. She finally gave into her instincts and kissed back.
And may she add, that was the best kiss she had ever had.
Hi, guys!
Wow... it's been over three weeks since I last updated. It's a crime, I know, but I have a legitimate reason: I've had a butt load of homework and projects! Remind you, I am only in the 7th grade, so I still have a life of education ahead of me.
The struggle has been real, though. I've been writing on my phone during car rides to try and get this update posted as soon as possible. I've written this author's note ahead of time so that it would be in bold (I'm a bit OCD at times. Don't judge), so yeah.
But THEY KISSED!! I know you guys have been waiting forever for something like this to happen. It's sad that I've you've been waiting this long, but it happened, so rejoice in this moment with me *happy dances*!
Oh, and dedication goes to EzforPrez for the best comment: "Ugh, I've been anticipating and waiting for these two knuckleheads to get together and WHAT does Percy do? Goes and gets stuck in hell! WTF, urgh!!"
It was very hilarious and I seriously LOL'ed when I read that comment. Thank you so much, Ez! You're a very nice person and I'm glad you enjoy my story. Everyone go check out her Liam Payne fan fiction. It's actually really amazing!
I don't know when I'll update, but I'll try my hardest not to wait you guys wait so long again. Give me a week or two? I'll really try, guys. I hate to keep you all waiting!
Peace, love, and rubber gloves.
