Imagine Sixteen - Lonely This Christmas (Tristan)

December. A month of festivity, decorations, singing, togetherness, to name a few. For me, not so much. Yeah, my house was trimmed up to within an inch of its life, but I wasn't feeling the Christmas spirit this year. Solely because my boyfriend Tristan and his band The Vamps had really taken off this year, and they were away on some special Christmas gigs and wouldn't be home until 3 days after Christmas Day.

All i'd been doing since he left was moping around my room, refusing to come out. I bought a hamper of food up to my room and had an en suite bathroom, there was nothing else I needed really. Today was the day my auntie and niece were at my house, and I knew my niece would want entry to my misery lair. Sure enough, after bounding footsteps up the wooden stairs, heavy knocks were echoing through the room.

Knowing resistance was pointless, I wiped some stray tears from under my eyes and unlocked the door. My niece, Lizzie, wrapped her arms around my legs as soon as I opened the door, and she refused to let go. "Lucy, will you take me to see Santa?" she asked, whilst looking up at me with sparkling eyes. I internally groaned, I had a plan to watch every movie ever made and never leave my room ever again, but my phone buzzed at the same time signalling a text from my auntie asking me to take Lizzie to the shopping centre anyway. I internally groaned again, but nodded slowly. Lizzie took no time in dragging me downstairs and out the door, leaving barely enough time for me to grab my beanie and jacket and my mother and auntie wave as I left.

We trailed through the falling snow - which was rapidly becoming a blizzard - and completed the fifteen minute journey to the shopping centre in town, Lizzie's hand adjoined to mine the whole time. As soon as we entered, the warm air was welcoming, and Lizzie's hand left my grasp suddenly as she began running towards the festive display in the middle of the centre. I never let her out of my sight, but took my time catching up to her.

Once I reached her, I sighed at how long the queue was. I guessed that we'd be queueing for at least forty five minutes, and looked down at my niece. "Are you sure Liz? We can come back tomorrow if you want?" I asked hopefully, but she shook her head. "I need to see Santa today Lucy" she replied simply. Looks like we're not going anywhere anytime soon then.

Twenty minutes later, we were about halfway through the queue. My little companion was tapping her foot impatiently, and I was becoming stressed too. Luckily for us, a few parents got too annoyed and walked out of the queue impatiently, meaning we were bumped up to third place in the queue. The kids were thankfully not the annoying ones that wanted everything under the sun for Christmas, so we were at the front almost straight away.

The stressed out man dressed in an elf costume ushered Lizzie inside the manmade cave towards 'Santas Grotto' and I followed, shuffling my feet as I walked. The artificial grotto, to me, looked grubby, and I regretted not taking Lizzie to a nicer looking one, but I was definitely getting her meet and greet with 'Santa' for all it was worth.

I stood in the corner awkwardly whilst my niece delivered a long list of things she wanted, and was shocked when I heard one of them. "Santa, I want Lucy to be happy again" she whispered what she thought was quietly, but I heard her clear as day. It bought a tear to my eye, and the wannabe Santa Claus smiled at me as he whispered something in Lizzie's ear. Normally creepy, but it was cute in this situation. No idea why I thought this.

Suddenly, Lizzie turned to look at me, and beamed at me. I went to smile back, but as I did a pair of strong arms snaked around my waist, and my first instinct was to panic - naturally - but instead something just automatically put me at ease. "Looks like we both got our Christmas wishes" a voice whispered in my ear, breath hot against my neck. I spun around immediately, and fell straight into Tristan's arms.

"You're back early? What about your gigs?" I asked inquisitively. "We moved some things around, I realised it wouldn't be Christmas without you" he replied, and leaned down and kissed me softly and tenderly.
