I advise listening to the song this is based on (Diana - One Direction) and there's a link in the sidebar if you need it, however note that this songfic is only loosely based on the song, and the lyrics were slightly changed to fit the context of the storyline xx
~ Hella cliché fluff, so yes, what you think will happen will more than likely happen, I was just in a mood to write fluff and a cute coffee shop au so here ~
There was very little chance of Isabelle hiding the day from hell she’d endured. Bags under her eyes, makeup all shifted south, dripping and shaking from the torrential rainstorm that appeared as if from nowhere.
There was only one place she could bare to go, the one cliché she allowed herself to have in life. The coffee shop. Not any coffee shop, mind, Isabelle’s favourite establishment contained no hipsters or tumblr famous wannabes, just the odd elderly customer lounging in the comfier seats, or the occasional student popping in for a coffee and cake on their way to class. And Isabelle, she was often found there too, not that anyone she knew would be able to trace her there. The coffee shop time was her time, and all communications with the outside world were cut off for the duration of her visit.
As she pushed the chunky wooden door open, causing the bell to jingle, everyone in the room turned to stare. The elderly couple she’d briefly became acquaintances with through seeing them almost every day smiled at her warmly, and the baristas smiled too.
Isabelle had made a friend in one of the baristas, Lisa, who beamed at her as Isabelle wandered over to the order counter. Upon closer inspection, it was evident Lisa understood the situation without a single word being spoken.
“Is he still texting?” she asked with a sympathetic smile, and Isabelle nodded, determined not to cry again.
“It’s been three months, he needs to get the fucking hint” Lisa huffed before tightening her wavy auburn ponytail.
“I’ve just came here to forget about him” Isabelle shrugged, her voice as small as physically possible.
Lisa nodded in understanding, then took the order and wrote it down on the little notepad that was always conveniently placed on the counter.
“Go take a seat honey, we’ll bring it over to you” Lisa smiled thoughtfully, and Isabelle took her favourite seat, at the top of the stairs in the back corner of the building.
Due to the shop being so sparsely populated, every word said above a whisper in volume echoed from every wall.
“Tristan can you get this please? I’m taking a two minute break” Lisa asked one of the other baristas, who, from what Isabelle could hear, grumbled something of an acceptance in reply.
The silence was welcoming, and Isabelle judged there was no better time to attempt to revise for an upcoming exam. With that being her decision, she spread out all of her textbooks on the table and picked one at random, eyes closed. English it was, then.
Around ten minutes later she was broken out of her studying frame of mind by a subtle cough, which was enough to distract her, gladly in fact. She looked up from her book to see the other barista Tristan standing with Isabelle’s drink, smiling politely down at her.
She stacked her textbooks so there was room for the American-style mug, and it was set down for her.
“Thankyou” she forced a smile along with her gratitude.
“Always a pleasure” Tristan replied, before smiling widely then returning back down the stairs and behind the counter.
As anything was a better pastime than revising time periods of English, Isabelle took some time to reflect. She had always, since day one, found Tristan attractive (very attractive, as her inner thoughts love to correct her) and whenever he delivered her drink to her she felt a kind of spark when they exchanged smiles. And he bought her the drinks a lot, almost every time, in fact. Originally it was Lisa who delivered the drinks, and she and Isabelle would have a little gossip before Lisa would be forced to return to the counter.
