"Do you know the worst part of walking away" she asked him

He looked at her with a blank face.

"It's hoping that they'll run after you. That they'll stop you and tell you not to leave. That they'll beg you to stay. That they'll tell you they need you," she said "but they never do," "he doesn't even care" she cried.

Her ripped prom dress fell down her knees as she sat on the cold concrete leaning against the brick school wall. He started at her. His tie undone, and knuckles all bruised.

"He doesn't deserve you,"

"Danny, not now," she shook her head

"No. You act like you love him. I know you don't. He doesn't treat you they way you should be treated. He's a dick Jessica,"

Nothing.

"-you look beautiful tonight, you should be in there, dancing."

"Yeah," she almost laughed

The music turned slow. And they could hear it through the doors outside very softly.

"Would you dance with me?" He shyly asked

"Me?" She looked up

"Yes."

Wrapping her arms around his shoulders she laid her head on his chest. Tears slowly streamed from her eyes.

"I'm sorry you had to get into the middle of that," she confessed

"Shhh. Don't worry about him. You deserve a dance."

"Thank you Danny."
