Chani's P.O.V.
One day afterThe time ticked away at the minutes and I was still at the FNC Entertainment practice room, practicing for our group performance for Mnet. I just couldn't seem to have performed the dance well and my voice was a bit off key, or at least that's what Youngbin hyung told me. It was already 11:30, and all I could do was practice. John-nim, our manager told me that I should rest since he found out from another employee that I'm sick with a cold. Actually, it's just a little cough. Nothing more, nothing less. I just couldn't concentrate well enough and nearly fainted today. Maybe it's because I can't help but think about Youngja-ssi. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get her off of my mind. Each and every day, during the morning and night; I think about her. Is there something wrong with me? I mean, she views me as somehow like a younger brother; she can't possibly like me in a romantic way. Unlike me, who likes her in such a way.
Chani! Yah, Kang Chanhee! I answered my phone, only to have Youngbin hyung yell in my ear. Blurting some curses at me for being late for dinner and not coming back to the dorm in what appeared to be hours. What the hell is taking you so long?!
"No worries, I'll be there soon. Just give me a few minutes to pack up," I replied back, above all his yelling. Coughing roughly, I grabbed my jacket off of the chair, turned off the computer, and headed out. Unluckily for me, my body was feeling weak and I tripped over someone's shoulder bag. "Sorry, it looks like I tripped over your bag," I stated to the girl sitting on a chair outside the practice room, script in hand. It was Youngja-ssi, earphones in her ears, drinking some sips of raspberry lemonade from what appeared to be of the Starbucks brand. Why she was reading a script; that I do not know. So, I asked her what she was doing.
"Oh, Chani-ssi!" she exclaimed after a moment of silence, closing the script pages. "I was just reading a script for my drama class,"
"Oh! Do you mind if I help?" I asked of her, quickly approaching her.
"Maybe some other time, it's getting late," she replied, checking the time on her watch. "John-nim asked me to come and get you,"
"Why? I'm old enough to take care of myself!" I exclaimed the last couple of words and rolled my eyes in response. I guess he just doesn't trust me.
"Well, I agreed with him that you are still a kid. That means, you need to be watched,"
"But, I'm seventeen! (*An: Chani is seventeen Korean age and sixteen international age, whereas Youngja is eighteen Korean age and seventeen international age.)" I whined, but quickly stopped; realizing that it would get me nowhere. I followed Youngja-ssi out of the hallway and on to the quiet sidewalk. There was a long silence that followed, but I finally had the nerve to talk to her, "Youngja-ssi," I began, clearing my throat. "H-How's school?"
"Oh, it's good! Why are you asking?" she stated back in response.
"Oh, nothing. Just curious, I guess,"
"How was school for you, Chani-ssi?"
"Umm... I was caught spacing out,"
"Oh, that's no good! You should concentrate more,"
"Yeah, I should!"
Our conversation ended quickly as Youngja-ssi and I entered the boys' dorm. "I guess it's time for me to take my leave," she stated, staring at me directly. "Well, bye," Suddenly, I put my hand around her wrist and pulled her close; probably out of instinct.
"Noona," I began as she quickly pulled away.
"Yah, Kang Chanhee! Just what on earth do you think you're doing?!"
"Tell me, is it wrong to be like this?" I questioned of her after releasing a sigh.
"What do you mean?"
"Is it wrong for me to love you?"
"Huh?"
"Noona, I think I'm falling for you..." my voice trailed off as I shyly tried to open the door to the room I shared with Jaeyoon and Zuho hyung. I waited for a response. When there was none, I shifted around and turned to enter the room.
"Yah! Kang Ch-!" It was probably rude at the time, but I had just slammed the door in Youngja-ssi's face.
Just why exactly am I like this?
Youngja's P.O.V.
"Yah! Kang Ch-!" I exclaimed as Chani was about ready to slam the door in my face. Bam! And with that, I sighed. What could he possibly mean? He said he thinks he's falling for me, but how? It just doesn't make any sense. I mean, he's like a younger brother to me... Liking him as something more would just be weird. Besides, I am his noona.
Taking my leave, I glimpsed up at the expanse of night sky above me, stars glistening in the moonlight. Sighing, I took off my shoes by the doormat and entered the house. My brother, Minjun, was fast asleep on the couch. He seemed to have fallen asleep to another episode of some type of foreign detective/ police drama and was probably waiting for me to get home. Ever since our parents died when we were younger due to an automobile accident, Minjun has been my guardian ever since; acting as both a father and a mother to me. The mothering part, however, was quite interesting as he's never really learned how to cook properly. He usually leaves the day's meals to me. I grinned at the sight of him and climbed up the stairs and into my room.
Flopping upon my bed, I once again read over the script for my drama class. Ever since I was little, I've been known to be quite the actress. Last fall, I auditioned for FNC but I was never able to pass as the panel of judges in front of me at the time had said my acting was "mediocre at best". However, I've been trying my best to improve. And so far, it's working. My drama teacher says that I should be able to play the female lead in our school's next drama production if I keep up the hard work.
Sighing once again, I rolled over onto my stomach and checked my phone. I was supposed to be notified about tomorrow's schedule soon. But, when there was no notification, I looked back at my script then up at the SF9 poster that hung on the ceiling. Secretly, I'm a fan of them. Since I work for them, it's basically a dream come true. However, will he notice me? Ever since I got into SF9 due to the help of their music video for Fanfare, I made Inseong-ssi my bias in the group.
And, after what happened yesterday, I fell for him again. Even if it's just once, I want him to think of me.
Just once...
