"Hey mom, I'm home" i said as I walked into the living room where all my family was sitting.

I looked around to notice though that my sister Blakely was not present.

"Hi honey please take a seat" my mom said

Both my mom and dad where sitting at the front of the living room holding hands.

"As you know I've been having some problems for a while and they haven't been able to figure out what's wrong" my mother started, "Well today they called with results from my last test and..."my mom couldn't say any more before bursting into tears. My dad wrapped her in his arms and pulled her close.

"What your mother was saying is they called back with the results and it look as if your mother has cancer." He said getting choked up

Matt pulled me into his arms as we all cried.

I couldn't believe. My mother had always been the healthiest person I've ever known. She works out almost everyday and we all eat insanely healthy.

"I don't want you guys to be scared. I'm going to make it through this I promise. And please don't tell Blakely she is way to young to know something like this." My mom said forcing a smile to her face.

We all dried up our tears because we wanted to be strong for our mother.

"Dinner is ready so why don't we all head to the table and go eat." My mom said in her normal positive attitude.

we called blakely down stairs and all headed to the table.

We all sat around the table and enjoyed our food with almost complete silence.

"So how was everyone's first day?!" Mom asked

"Mine was so awesome! I love kindergarten so much. We got to go play on the playground and they have this huge slide that's so cool!" Blakely said causing us all to laugh.

"That's great!"

Everyone's attention was then turned to me.

"Mine was good. I have a bunch of classes with Lillie and Ashley and I met a few new friends too." I explained

Our conversation kept going around the table until it ended with Matt. Soon everyone was done eating. We all gathered our dishes and began washing them in the kitchen. This was sort of like our family bonding time and it was usually a blast.

"Mom, Dad, can I go for a walk?" I asked as we finished up.

"Of course honey, just don't stay out too late."

I slipped on a sweatshirt and grabbed my phone as I headed out the door.

I texted Hayes and told him to meet me at the end of his street. By the time I made it down there he was already waiting.

"Hey Kendall." He said

"Hey Hayes. Follow me I wanna show you something." I said as I lead the way to my secret spot.

There is this place in my neighborhood that has a little lake that's hidden away from everything else. It's where I go when I need to think or just need some peace. I discovered it when I was little and haven't told anyone about it since.

"Kendall where are you taking me?" Hayes asked as I pulled him through woods

"Just trust me, ok?" I said
