~five years earlier~

I stood alone against the brick wall watching everyone else play game and talk to friends.

I looked down at my white pants, happily accepting that I couldn't go out and join in on their fun.

It was field day. All the seventh graders got to spend the whole school day playing outside.

Boys played sports or walked around with their friends.

Some girls played small games, chatted and flirted with oblivious boys.

I could've walked around.
If I hadn't talked back to my teacher. Now I stood against the dirty, reddish-brown bricks.

My pastel pink sweater stuck to it. So did my wild dirty blonde hair. As I leant forward I could feel them trying to leave me, like everything else in my life.

"Bryce! Come play with us!" Jon waved at me.

I wasn't exactly happy about him noticing me. Sure we are friends, but that doesn't include the fact that he cheated on the guy I liked with the guy who likes me.

Middle school drama, per usual. In a hour I will be over it.

I shook my head, forced a laugh and smiled.

"Can't! Got in trouble."

He giggled. "Again? Whatever, but we are going to park later. No excuses!"

I smiled. He was a good friend.

I watched as he ran down a small hill to catch up with the rest of the group. His brown, curly hair catching the wind.

My purple flower crown drooped because it was to big. I groaned and pushed it back up.

A small laugh came from in front of me.
I looked up.
My blue eyes meeting brown ones.

"H-Hi." Freckles danced across his face. A big smile crinkling the side of his eyes.

"Hello." His teeth were pearly white.

I stood there awkwardly.
He didn't seem to mind.

"I like your sweater, and your flower crown. Also my name is Ryan." He talked fairly as if to say everything at once.
He had messy brown hair. Tossed to one side, with a plain black cap on top of it.

"I'm Bryce."He grinned.

"I like that name. Mind if I stand next to you?"
