Yuri's POV {I'll refer to them as Yuri and Yurio from now btw}
After about half an hour of practice it was safe to say I was pretty dead. It had been a while since I had trained so vigorously and the combined cold of the normal Russian temperature and being in an ice rink was taking its toll.
"Oi Viktor, if you're not busy helping this incompetent will you come watch me?" I looked up from where I was leaning against the wall to see Yurio talking to Viktor, who somehow had energy to spare.
"Hm sure! I'll be back in a bit okay Yuri?" I nodded in reply. Maybe I should take a break, I thought. Skating over to the side of the rink I decided I'd go get a drink before I came back. I attempted to run up the steps (which is a great idea if you're wearing skates) and ended up tripping and falling on my face. "Ow..." I muttered.
"Huh- Yuri are you okay?" Viktor asked in a comforting tone before giving up and laughing along with Yurio. Wow it's not like I've broken my face or anything. "Sorry. Here-" he skated over and helped me up with a smile.
I ran outside to the vending machines and grabbed a bottle of water, which was actually 60% ice. "Woah" I exclaimed. I turned around and bumped into something soft, which I then realised was a person. "Oh, uh, извините." I apologised. The person who was actually very tall looked down at me with a surprised expression.
"Woah you're short!" He yelled putting his hand above my head. "O-oh you can speak English...Wait how did you know-" he cut me off by patting my head with a grin. "I could tell by your accent. You don't exactly sound Russian, plus you look like you're about to freeze to death." Fair point stranger.
"What's your name?" I asked trying to ignore the fact he called me short, even though I was average height. "Lev, nice to meet you!" He yelled grabbing my hand and shaking it. "Lev..like a lion?" He nodded with a grin. He certainly didn't look like a lion...he looked more like a big cat.
I took a moment to examine him. He was approximately 190cm, had dark grey hair, cat like green eyes and seemed about the same age as me. "I'm Yuri, nice to meet you too." I checked my watch to see that I'd been out here for nearly fifteen minutes. "Oh, I have to go. Bye!" I waved goodbye and ran back into the rink where Viktor was still watching Yurio skate.
It was really something to watch...he looked more like a lion cub then anything else. Small and cute but also a little intimidating. And murderous.
He came to a stop and Viktor clapped. "Nice, nice! You're getting the quadruple lutz down well~" I skated over to them. "Wow Yurio that was cool! How'd you learn to do that?" I asked. It did seem strange that a homeless thug lion cub would be doing something as precise and graceful as ice skating.
"I taught myself. And Viktor helped too." Wow, I'd been skating professionally for a few years and already this self taught 15 year old was on the same level. That's really impressive...and kind of depressing.
"Hm it's getting a bit cold." Viktor stated rubbing his arms. You're just now realising that?!
"Come on let's go back home. Rest is as important as practice after all." He placed his arm around my shoulders and Yurio followed us as we left.
By the time we got back it was nearly 6pm. We ate a quick meal and then just lazed around watching Netflix. "Come to think of it why were you gone so long earlier Yuri?" Viktor asked.
"Well, I ran into this tall guy called Lev and we started talking." Yurio and Viktor seemed to look surprised at this. "Lev? The same Lev who came fourth in the Grand Prix last year?"
"Wait really? You know who he is?"
Viktor grinned. "Yeah! Really overexcitable tall guy right?" I nodded. "Hmm I remember~"
Flashback to last years Grand Prix~
Yurio's POV
"Well done Viktor, great performance." He ran over to me out of breath. "You too Yurio, you won first again right? But I see what you did at the end you improvised that right? Cos I know that wasn't in the routine-" aaaand he goes on another rant. "Isn't that Lev Haiba?" I asked watching the tall Russian running around as his coach scolded him for something.
"Yeah." He must've noticed us watching him because he ran over to us. Either that or he was looking for an excuse to get away from his coach. "Well done Viktor your performance was amazing! Definitely the best!" Viktor smiled in reply.
"But I won't lose next year...not to you or you or anyone!" He exclaimed pointing at us both. "Lev get back here or I'll kick you!"
With that he yelped and ran off without saying anything more. Looks like I may have some competition next year.
