"Listen Layla." Jason said smiling at me. "Yes Mr. Flirt?" I asked him punching him in the arm playfully. "I like you." He said. I braced myself. "But..." He started. "Yes?" I asked him waggling my eyebrows. He laughed. "Let's be friends. Just friends." Jason said. Was I disappointed? I don't know! "Alrighty then! We are officially BFF's!" I yelled grabbing his hand again while jumping around. He looked confused. "Would you like me to be disappointed?" I asked. "It would help my self-esteem, yes." Jason joked. I acted all dramatic and sobbed. "Why me? WHY ME?!" I screamed grabbing his shirt. I got up. "Better?" I asked him still holding his hand. "Better." Jason assured me. "Maybe one day if we get to know each other better, we can be more than just friends." Jason stated. I blushed and smiled. Without thinking I kissed his cheek. "Uh?" He asked his facing turning red. "My gosh Jason! Can I not give my best guy friend a sisterly kiss?" I asked putting my hands on my hips. "Okay, okay, okay." Jason said putting his hands up in surrender. I laughed. "JASON!" I heard someone yell. "I better see who that is. See you later okay?" Jason said. I smiled and gave him a hug. "See ya!" I said as we parted ways in the hallway. I needed to sit down. I opened the first bedroom door I saw.
My mouth went slack.
Liv? Mitch?
The two were sitting on the bed kissing. I wanted to punch Liv for no reason. I wasn't jealous was I? I didn't call dibs. She had every right to kiss Mitch! At least that's what I told myself. I wanted to scream. Instead I walked out of the room slowly before they saw me. I balled my hands into fists and looked down. I tried to walk away...
Only to run into someone.
"Layla!" Jerome said smiling. "Hey Jerome." I said my voice pretty much projecting my bad mood. Don't blame Jerome! Don't be grumpy! I immediately perked up. "What's up?" Jerome asked. Stay perky. Don't show your sadness. Don't show your pain. That was a lesson I learned long ago. "The sky." I said. "Doesminecraft." I added. Jerome looked up at the ceiling slowly. I laughed. "Well see ya! I accidentally left my drink in here." Jerome said pointing to the room I just come out of. "Jerome- wait..." I started. But I didn't finish my sentence. He walked in.
I walked away.
Mitch's P.O.V.
I heard a small creak and footsteps but I didn't stop kissing Liv. It felt wrong. I liked Layla! But after seeing her and Jason talking and laughing, and watching them hold hands, I was pissed. She had kissed Jason! On the cheek yes, but still! I heard a much louder creak and I broke away. Liv pouted. I saw Jerome standing in the doorway. "Woah." Jerome said eyes wide. "What do you want?!" Liv said rudely. He stared at her. He looked back at me. "Getting my drink. I left it in here." Jerome said finally. I got up. "Mitch!" Liv pouted. I looked at her. I felt... disgusted. "A fan girl. You're just a fan girl." I said to her. Why was I so rude? I walked out of the room with Jerome and watched as Liv pulled out her phone. Crap.
"Why were you kissing Liv?" Jerome questioned immediately. I sighed. "Layla kissed Jason on the cheek." I said. "So you took your anger out by kissing Liv?" Jerome asked confused. "Because Layla gave Jason a sisterly kiss?" He said. I nodded. Jerome shook his head. "I know you don't need this right now but Layla saw." Jerome said turning away. "What?!" I said. Great! I just ruined my chances with the girl I liked! Yippee.
"She bumped into me right before I walked in. She looked confused and..." He paused. "I don't know how to describe it." Jerome said to me. "I need to go apologize." I turned to walk away.
I saw her walking down the hall toward the living room. I saw Lauren and Jerome in the corner (how did he get there that fast?) talking and laughing. Adam was talking to Lily. Ian and Ty were sitting on the couch with two other girls. Jason was sitting on the opposite couch. I ran toward Layla. "Layla!" I called. She didn't turn around. "Layla!" I called again. She kept walking. I grabbed her arm. She spun around to face me. Her normally light walnut brown eyes were a coal black. "What do you want?!" She yelled. I flinched and took a step back. A few people stared at us. She seemed to notice my uncomfort. "Sorry." She whispered turning away again. "Wait!" I called putting my hand on her shoulder. She looked at me. Her eyes were the usual warm walnut color. "Jerome told me you saw... you know. And I want to apologize for-" She interrupted me. "It's fine Mitch. I'm fine." Layla said coldly. "I know you're feeling-" She interrupted me again. "I'm fine Mitch! Let it go!" She yelled. So this is what she hid under her jokes, smiles, and laughs.
I looked down. Her voice softened. "If it makes you feel better I give you my blessing!" She said giving me a smile. A forced smile. I looked at her. I was surprised to see her eyes looked wet. She let out a small sniffle and gave me another fake smile. "I-" I stuttered trying to think about what I wanted to say. She pulled me into a hug. I was aware that people were watching. Including Jerome.
"It's okay Mitch. I'm alright." She whispered into my ear. I ran my hand through her hair savoring the moment. "It won't be like last time. I won't leave you again. No matter what, even if you forget me again." Layla whispered.
"I promise."
