Layla's P.O.V.
I was sitting on a couch at Jason's couch. Something was up with him. Ever since the last day at the hospital he hadn't been talking to me as much. He kept his distance. I remembered talking to him after coming out of the hospital.
*Flashback*
"I'm finally free!" I said jumping up and down as soon as we walked out of the hospital. He laughed. I took his hand. Jason's face twitched. "Is something wrong?" I asked. He quickly shook his head. "Alright." I said not totally convinced. I unlinked our hands and his muscles relaxed. My heart dropped.
Something was most definitely wrong.
We got in the car and started driving. A song came on.
Because there's two roads and they're the same, but I don't know which way, because one has you and the other has me.
We're apart, and I'm done.
And it's time, to run.
Away.
I tapped my foot to the song. "This is a great song don't you think?" I asked. Jason laughed. "What?" I said confused. He smiled.
"This is your song." he said laughing. "I sing?" I asked. He nodded. I shrugged.
"I assumed I was tone deaf."
Jason burst out laughing. He parked the car.
"You're really special Layla." he said softly.
"Special is just a nice way of saying crazy isn't it?" I asked. Jason smiled. He leaned in. I took a deep breath. I leaned in to help fill the gap. Our faces were an inch apart.
He froze.
We both didn't move as if we were paralyzed.
Suddenly he quickly pulled away. "I can't, I promised." he muttered under his breath. "You promised what?" I asked. He realized I was there.
"Nothing."
"Tell me!"
Jason sighed. "Let's just say you're making it very hard to keep my promise. Extremely hard in fact."
I sighed and opened the door. "Alright, don't tell me. It's fine, bye Jason." I said walking out of the car. He looked at me like he wanted to say something but he stayed silent.
He finally spoke. I hoped that it would be an apology or something, anything at all, to make me turn around.
I was disappointed.
Just one simple word.
"Bye."
*Flashback Over*
I groaned. I still didn't understand what had happened.
He had leaned into kiss me and then he stopped.
Because he made a promise.
I could only guess what that meant.
Mitch came downstairs. "Ready to play?" he asked.
"What game?"
"Call of Duty."
An idea flashed into my head.
"How do you play?" I asked. He laughed. "I'll teach you."
He tossed me a controller and I easily caught it. "You throw like a girl."
He looked at me seriously.
"I am a girl."
There was silence.
He burst out laughing. "Kidding!"
"Of course you are." I muttered.
"So this is how you move, look around, shoot, and throw grenades." he said showing me each one in turn. He rested his hands on mine and guided my fingers. Even after he stopped his hands still held mine. I looked up at him. "Fraternizing with enemy Mitchell?" I asked in a ridiculously deep voice.
Mitch smiled and grabbed his own controller. "I'll go easy on you." he promised. The map loaded.
"It's on." I said slyly.
*TIME WARP*
Mitch's mouth fell open. I had beat him by like...
a lot.
But I was very modest.
I jumped up. "HA! IN YOUR FACE SUCKER!" I said doing my victory dance.
"Please stop doing the sprinkler!" Mitch said laughing. I stopped. "Would you prefer the worm?" I asked curiously.
"You knew how to play?" Mitch asked. I nodded. "Then why didn't you tell me?!" he demanded. "Dude, I lost my memory, not my skill! Besides, I found the way you were showing me how to play very adorable." I giggled. Mitch laughed.
"Now who's fraternizing with the enemy?" he asked. "Besides you only beat me because I went easy on you." he protested.
I laughed. "Sure Mitch, whatever helps you sleep at night. But just know..."
"YOU GOT BEAT BY A GIRL!" I yelled.
Mitch jumped up and started chasing me. "Admit that you only won because I went easy on you!" he said chasing me around the room.
"How about... no?" I said running away. We ran up and down the stairs. I ran into a bedroom.
"Crap, dead end." I muttered. Mitch ran in. "I got you now!" he yelled.
Mitch jumped and tackled me onto the bed. "Get off crazy!" I screamed. Mitch chuckled. "You think I'll just do what you say that easily?" he asked. "You are so asking for it." I said under my breath. I jerked so that he lost his grip. I climbed on top of him and pinned his arms to the bed.
"Never going to admit it Mitchell. I could do this all day." I said smirking. "Fine." he said in surrender. I got off of him.
"You're very interesting." Mitch said laughing.
"You can just say crazy. It won't hurt my feelings." I said shrugging. He laughed and looked me in the eye.
"I'd never hurt you." he whispered. We both leaned in and kissed. Sparks flew.
But something else was there. A memory was tugging at me.
Pain.
And heartbreak.
