Layla's P.O.V.

So Mitch and I got back together.

I sat in my room and looked out the window.

The moon shined bright and illuminated the park near our house. "I should visit there." I said to myself.

A lot of my memory had returned but some of my life was still lost on me.

I knew why I was mad at Liv, but I had forgiven her in hopes that I could make my life go back to the way it was.

My life was no where near the same.

Layla sat next to me on the couch. Her head was on my shoulder and I held her close. We were watching Catching Fire.

"BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM FINNICK!" Layla yelled. I chuckled. "It's just a movie Layla."

"In which Finnick will be the crap out of Brutus?" she asked. I grinned. "Sure."

Layla's phone buzzed. "One sec." she said picking it up.

Her eyes widened. She glanced at me and nervousness flew across her face.

"Is everything alright?" I asked. She nodded quickly. "Everything's fine."

Her tone didn't assure me.

"Alright." I said. "Mitch, I promise everything is okay." Layla said taking my hand. Her eyes pleaded with me. I gave her a kiss. "Okay! Okay! I believe you!"

She grinned and cuddled next to me.

The movie finished.

"Such a cliff-hanger!" Layla said grinning. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom. Wait for me?" she asked. I nodded and smiled.

She left the room.

I turned my head. Her phone lay on the table. I reached out.

"Stop Mitch." I said to myself. Checking her messages would be invading her privacy. But why had she looked at me? The problem had to do with me. I had to read the message.

I scrolled through her recent messages.

From: Lauren

To: Layla

When are you going to tell Mitch that you're Dawn?

From: Layla

To: Lauren

I'm not.

"Mitch?!" I heard a voice screech. I looked up. Layla stood there with an expression of disbelief on her face. "Why are you reading my text messages?"

I didn't even register her anger.

"Care to explain this?!" I asked standing up. Layla looked worried. "There's nothing to explain to you."

"I think there's quite a bit to explain. Lauren said you're Dawn. Dawn left me in the hospital five years ago after I got amnesia. She betrayed me."

The coldness in my voice surprised me.

"You betrayed me."

Layla's eyes became glassy.

"Mitch, I had to. For my sister."

"You had to what?! For what reason?! You left me in the hospital! For all you cared I could've been dead!"

Hurt flew across Layla's face.

"Please Mitch. I was accused of murdering someone. If I hadn't left, they would've put me in and jail and taken my sister to an orphanage. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if that had happened. I had to leave. Please understand." Layla pleaded.

"I don't know how you can live with yourself anyway! You murdered someone for god's sake! You don't get it do you? I was in the hospital!"

"Mitch I-"

I cut her off.

"I hate you."

"I hate you." he whispered. His words hit me like a bullet. Why couldn't he understand?

Anger replaced my sadness.

"Hate me all you want Mitch! You say I don't get it? You're the one who doesn't get it! I was in the hospital too you know! You don't understand what I had to do! It was either leave you or let my sister be taken away from me! She's my only family! My mom and dad are dead! Murdered!"

Mitch's face faltered from my sudden anger.

"I did what I had to do!" I screamed.

"Why didn't you tell me?! You never told me that you were Dawn, and it seems like you didn't plan to!" Mitch yelled.

"I felt guilty enough knowing I left you in the hospital, I had to make it up to you." I said softly.

"By not telling me the truth?" Mitch shouted.

My heart broke.

I hadn't told him the truth.

"All this time I thought you loved me, turns out you're just a liar!" he screamed.

I felt coldness spread through my body.

He would never get it. Mitch would never understand why I made the choices I made. Because I wasn't going to tell him the truth.

Ever.

"You don't understand do you Mitch? I lied to protect you because I love you!"

Mitch's eyes widened. I ran into a bedroom and slammed the door. The tears finally came out. I sobbed and wept for what felt like hours.

There was a knock on the door.

I didn't want to speak to him.

"Layla, please."

I stood up. It couldn't any worse. Why not just let him tear me down with his words?

I opened the door.

Mitch looked at me.

"I'm sorry." he whispered. He wrapped me in his arms. "I've been selfish. I should've seen it from your point of view. I'm so sorry." he said softly into my ears. "I love you." Mitch said.

He let go of me.

I love you too.

The words I so badly wanted to say got caught in my throat. Maybe I didn't remember everything, but I knew I loved him.

"I-"

My words were cut off by the sound of glass shattering.

"Mitch!" I tried to scream. No sound came out.

The last thing I saw was a man jump into the room and Mitch's mouth yelling my name one last time.

Then everything went black.
