Layla's P.O.V.

What did I just do? Don't cry! Keep your emotions in! I yelled at myself. I left Mitch standing in the living room and walked away. I walked over to Jason. "Can we watch a movie later?" I whispered into his ear sitting next to him on the couch. He nodded. I gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks." I said under my breath. "Always here for you." Jason said.

So many promises made today! That just meant so many lies began today. I ran down the hall and slumped against the wall as soon as I was sure no one could see. I sobbed into my hands. I'm so stupid! I regretted all the decisions I had ever made. "Layla?" A voice said. Please don't be Mitch. I thought. I looked up. "Jerome?" I said confused. "I know Layla. I know the truth." Jerome said staring intently at me. I felt a stab of  fear pierce my heart.  "What are you talking about?"  I said nervously. "You're Dawn." Jerome said. He looked tired. I started to talk but he held up a hand to stop me. "I was Mitch's friend back then." He said. There was no hiding the truth. "You were the boy who questioned Mitch after he told me his name was Hugo!" I said standing up. Jerome nodded. "You did look like a crazy person what with the blood on your hands." Jerome stated. I smiled. "Dead cat." I said. Jerome took a step back. I laughed. "It doesn't matter." I whispered. Jerome took a step toward me. "You left after you guys got into that car crash." I nodded. "You and Kate," Jerome said slowly and softly. I still didn't speak. "Then you dyed your hair and changed your names?" He asked. "Yes. I became Layla. Kate became Cheryl." I whispered my voice hoarse. "You know, you do look a lot like Dawn. Same chocolate eyes. Same curved mouth." Jerome said taking another step toward me. "You aren't really a girl with black hair are you? You used to be a blondie? Then you dyed it with brown streaks so the blond look dyed too." He whispered. I nodded. He brushed a lock of hair out of my face. "My wish." I whispered. "Your lie." Jerome whispered leaning toward me. "It doesn't matter." I repeated. "He doesn't remember me." I said trying not to cry. Jerome leaned in even more so that our faces were just an inch apart. His breath smelled like achohol. He must've been real drunk.

"Yes he does." Jerome whispered. He kissed me. He wrapped his arms around my waist.

What?

Mitch.

Remembered.

Me?

And I left him?!

We broke apart. I looked up at Jerome. "He remembered you. And you broke his heart when you left him." Jerome said as if fighting to stay conscious. I turned my head. "I thought he forgot me." I said. "He did. A little. He only remembers bits and pieces of your relationship." Jerome said. "We dated." I said. When we were 12 we started dating. The car crash happened when we were 14. "I know you two dated and broke up after the incident, but Layla?" Jerome said pausing putting his hand on my cheek making me face him. "Yeah?" I asked. "He likes you. He's just confused." I raised my eyebrows. "So he kissed Liv?" I asked. "He saw you kiss Jason, he thought you two were dating." Jerome said smiling slowly. "Sisterly kiss?" He said. "Yes all knowing Jerome." I said laughing. "That's catchy." Jerome said with a slight chuckle. "I'll tell him you're just friends." Jerome said turning away. "And us?" I asked him referring to the kiss. "It never happened." Jerome said turning back to me. He grabbed my face with his hands. "Neither did this." He slurred kissing me once on the lips, then the cheek, then the forehead. He pressed against me so I was leaning against the wall. My hands were hanging around his neck and he held my waist shaking me slightly from side to side. "Hide your emotions. Don't tell him you know he remembers." He said against my lips. I regretted what I said next.

"I promise." I whispered.

We pulled away from each other and he walked away. "Never happened." He called out turning toward me before continuing to walk down the hall. I heard a thud. He must've passed out.

As soon as he left I sat back down and started thinking.

Do I like Jason, Mitch, or Jerome?

Ugh! I felt like a jerk and a cheater!

My hand automatically went to the locket hanging around my neck. I opened it. The coin and papers were still there, but there was something else. A little slip of paper fell out. It was about the size of a fortune cookie slip. "Huh?" I said picking it up off the floor. I opened it up. I gasped. "What?!" I yelled. The little piece of paper said only six words.

Be careful what you wish for.
