AVERY'S P.OV:
The Class of 2017 erupted as the graduation begun. Ellie Bandobolt, honour student, cheer captain and school president. She sashayed across the stage, smiling broadly at the crowd. Kayleigh , my best friend, let out a loud groan. People around us shot her a dirty look, Kayleigh just rolled her eyes and flipped everyone off. I shook my head and directed my attention back to the blonde Barbie doll, she was now holding the microphone and opening her over glossed lips."This year had been the best year of our lives. We have had moments that will be forever memorable and amazing. The Class of 2017 will see this year as the best experience! I'm proud to say I sat alongside these amazing pupils and experienced the best moments of my life with them. I wish you all the best and hope you will continue to have the times of your lives! Now, please welcome Principal Esnem to announce the Class of 2017," she announced.
Whoops escaped over-excited parents mouths and students edging over their seats. Principal Esnem walked onto the stage, his bald head shining brightly and stomach jiggling. The list of names began, starting from Tyler Atkins then moving onto Grace Adams. Classmates cat called when Ellie's name was announced she curtsied dramatically.
"Kayleigh Duncan, moving on towards Toronto University," Principal Esnem bellowed.
I let out a cheer and clapped for my best friend as she made her way up to the stage. Kayleigh stood out amongst our pupils with her dyed aqua hair and tanned skin. Kayleigh was a real individual, half of the boys swooned as she sauntered up to Principal Esmen. As she received her diploma, she rose her hands above her head triumphantly and grinned at the crowd. Principal Esmen continued to go through the long list of students and finally reached my name.
"Avery Hunter, advancing to Stanford University, United States Of America," he boomed.
I rose awkwardly, pushing strands of my raven hair behind my ears. I unlike my best friend lacked her self composure and was quite clumsy, occasionally tripping as I walked up to the platform. Climbing the timber stairs, I stared around for my mum. She sat at the front row her eyes brimming with tears. I grinned as I grabbed Principal Esmen's beefy hand, my diploma falling into my sweaty palm. I positioned myself with the other graduates as we watched the rest of our class walk the stage.
I rushed towards my mum, spotting her in the army of parents. The warm summer air hit my skin and I let out a happy sigh.
"Oh darling you were wonderful, I'm so proud of you," she gushed.
I wrapped my arms tightly around my mum, she was quite petite and fit for her age. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around meeting a set of blue eyes.
"Kayleigh," I squealed.
I broke out of my mum's hug and embraced my friend warmly.
My mother let out a sob of joy. "Girls, get together for a picture," she demanded.
My friend I struck several poses, enjoying the moment. My mum let another sob escape before informing me that she would meet me at home, smothering me with hugs and kisses as she did so.
Kayleigh turned to me excitedly her eyes dancing, "Guess who got us invited to Isla Georgison's party?"
"No way am I going to a party, you know me Kayleigh, hugs not drugs," I sighed.
"C'mon Avery, it's going to be the biggest graduation party in Toronto, Isla even got her dad publish it in a magazine," she whinged.
I thought of everything I could do better with my time instead of going to a lame gathering of drunk graduates, then I noticed Kayleigh's face. She was staring at me hopefully, her blue eyes staring intently into my dark green ones.
