AVERY'S P.O.V:
Jake curled his fist and connected with Shawn's face for the second time. He reeked of alcohol. He shoved Shawn roughly to the pavement. A few people noticed the hassle and formed a circle around us. Shawn pushed himself up from the pavement and dodged Jake's sloppy kick.
"What the hell?"
Jake shoved Shawn again with a larger amount of force. Shawn didn't hesitate, he pushed his grazed fist into Jake's chest. Jake let out a grunt.
"Jake! Stop!" I yelped.
"He stole you from me," Jake hissed.
He curled his fist, Shawn catching it and pushing Jake away from us. This caused Jake to fall back. He bounced back up.
"Jake," I pleaded.
He gave a few grunts and fetched his cup from the ground . The crowd called out in disappointment as Jake stumbled away.
"You are trouble Avery Hunter. Fights, alcohol and parties. A bad influence," Shawn muttered.
My fingers brushed the red patch on his face.
"That wasn't random at all," Cameron called.
Shawn gave a laugh and tugged me off towards our friends.
"How are you laughing?" I quizzed.
"It's funny," he replied.
"You're weird," I stated.
"What's weird is that you didn't tell me you were into guys with hair gel."
He touched his curls almost self consciously. Kayleigh and Cameron were wrapped together in their own beach ensemble. Kayleigh wore a fluorescent pink bikini top with ripped denim shorts, Cameron wore similar coloured swimmer bottoms. Shawn's arm stretched around me.
Kayleigh grinned, "You got her to come to a party willingly."
"It was actually her idea," Shawn said.
"Avery suggested coming to an Isla Georgian's party. You are a miracle worker Shawn!"
I sipped at a can of coke in Isla Georgian's kitchen, which I'm pretty sure is bigger than the bottom floor of my house. I'd come inside to escape Isla and her questions about Shawn and I. I took another sip of the sugary beverage. I felt Shawn's presence as soon as he entered the room, I waited patiently for him to reach me. I smelt the familiar smell of musk and maple.
"Avery."
"Shawn," I smiled.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
You have to wonder how three words like 'Are you okay?' could trigger so much emotion. How could three words provoke so much guilt in you?
I responded to Shawn by pulling his head towards me and pecking him. He eagerly responded to this and pulled me closer. His lips were slightly chapped and had the lingering taste of a sweet substance.t He broke away with a look of desire. He ran his fingers through his dark hair.
"What happened?" I quizzed.
Shawn gave me a small smile, "I had the feeling we weren't going to stop. We're in the kitchen Avery. Common decency."
"Why don't we go somewhere else?"
His eyebrow bounced up at my suggestion, "Avery. You do know what you are suggesting don't you."
