The way their mouths fell open made it look like you were in one of those Tom and Jerry or Bugs Bunny shows where the characters mouths hit the floor when they were shocked. Well the people sitting in front of you could probably swallow a yacht each. So, naturally, it was quiet. Praying was a last resort and you were considering it at the moment.

Then, all of their answers came at once.

"What?!"

"No!"

"You can't be serious!"

"Stop messing with us, (Y/N),"

"(Y/N). . ."

"What?"

"That can't be right,"

"How did something so nice come from something like that?"

"Do you honestly expect us to believe that?"

They practically lunged at you. Minho, Gally, Thomas, and Chuck were talking all over each other, Newt seemed to have lost several years off his life, Alby was staring at his knife in confusion, and Teresa and Gabi looked like they saw a ghost.

"Hey!" You yelled over everybody, getting their attention. "Slow down!"

"How is that even possible?" Chuck wondered aloud. "You're so nice, yet she's so. . ."

"Just don't get on my bad side, okay?"

"Why did she put her own kid here?" Gally asked, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"She thinks I drove my dad mad and made him kill himself,"

"You don't seem like that type of person," Winston threw in.

"She'd hate me anyway,"

"Does she really hate you that much?" Minho asked, his voice concerned.

"Well she's trying to kill me," You shrugged, " That's enough proof for me,"

"Who would believe any of that crap?" Gabi asked from behind everybody.

"Well, you see Gabi," You started, pushing through the ranks of teenage boys standing in front of you. "I am her daughter, as much as I hate to admit it, and your parents work for her and so do you. I am technically at a higher rank on the scale then you. I could easily get you thrown out with the Cranks, along with your family. I can't see it effecting the company anyway. So, if you like the sound of that, keep on talking, if you don't then shut the hell up because I don't give a flying rats ass about you or your opinions. Plus, you see them?" You gestured around you at the boys, "Their on my side, make one wrong move and they wont stop me from putting you on bed rest for the rest of your life," You wiped the sweat off your hands on your dirty black skinny jeans. "The same goes for you, Teresa. So, any objections?"

Gabi's mouth hung open, her eyes were wide, and she looked completely terrified. Nobody objected. In fact, they boys looked proud of you. You met Newt's eyes from across the room, he seemed pleased.

Good.

You smiled at Teresa, who had a similar expression to Gabi's, and turned around.

"So," You said, mentally patting yourself on the back because damn, you're good. "Didn't we call this meeting for a reason?"

So, you ended up deciding the door was your best option. It will take you straight to WCKD, there will be supplies there, it could be used as shelter, and it had showers that had better water pressure.

But how you were going to do this was the question lingering, unasked. Maybe Gabi's family has connections to the weaponry department. Her mom could have slept with the person in charge, (Y/N) didn't know. But anything at this point would be helpful. A steel pipe could be considered nessassary. So how desperately do you need knives and guns? Very desperately. Or tomorrow you would be meeting angels.

"(Y/N)!" River called to you, running up behind you. "(Y/N), my leg hurts,"

You smiled and swiftly picked the child up and sat her on your hip. "It will hurt for a little while longer, but it will get better soon," You stated looking at the child.

There was a comfortable silence between the two of you for a while, River's head rested on your shoulder.

"He's staring at you," River whispered.

"Who is?" You asked, already knowing the answer but wanting to hear what she would call him. Newt has been staring at you since you left the Gathering. He was probably staring at you during the Gathering, but you were too busy yelling at Gabi or congratulating yourself for doing so.

"Newtie," River confessed and hid a giggle behind her hands.

You feel your cheecks grow a little warm. "Is that so?"

"Yeah,"

"Could you send him your best glare?"

"Okay," She looked behind you and shot a glare in what you guessed was Newt's direction. It didn't have much power, since she is so cute, but it seemed to work. You felt the burning gaze on your back leave. "Did it work?"

"I think so,"

"Good," She let out a breath she must have been holding.

"You dont have to hold your breath while glaring you know," You pointed out, shifting River on your hip into a more comfertable position.

"But you've got to puff your chest out, like Gally does,"

Gally walked by with his eyebrow raised. "Should I ask?"

You just shrugged, as River replied with " And he looks scary,"

"So you want to look scary?"

"Yes," She nodded her head, her pigtails bobbing with the movement.

Something behind you seemed to catch her eye. It was only for a second, but you are good at reading people. As your head was turned, trying to catch a glimpse of what had caught her eye, she screamed. The feeling of her being pulled out of your arms was what scared you most. Your head whipped around to see what happened. For a split second, you thought it might have been one of the boys, playing with her. But the sight before you almost made your stomach twist in knots. The sight of ripped clothes and thin hair was all it took for your to be sprinting and shouting.

"River!" You were sprinting, passing the Homestead where a confused Alby and Minho watched. They might have started chasing after you, but you were too busy acting like a worried mother to notice. Gally managed to catch your arm as you passed him.

"What are you doing?" He asked. You tried to tear your arm from his grip, but it was like trying to put a square block in a circle hole.

"River!" You yelled again. He followed your gaze.

A panicked "Shit!" made it out of his mouth before he was sprinting, you trailing him.

It didn't take you long to see where they were headed. The Maze. Your whole world came crumbling down around you as the door slowly started to close. You didn't catch when Gally stopped running beside you, but you did hear his shouts of protest when you didn't stop.

You weren't letting River go. You couldn't. She was one of the only people who gave you a loving feeling. Like someone actually loved you.

She was home.
