second choice

when you think of yellow bells but still go for roses
when you think of pork but still loves beef
when you think of coffee but still loves tea
you can clearly determine and see
which one there is me.

she was your favorite shirt
that you used to wear all day,
while i was those torn out ones
that you only wear when you're too lazy to find something
inside your cabinet.

she was the warmth in that coffee you just brewed
and i wasn't even a tiny bit of sugar or cream
since you also don't like it when you put them in.
she was those cellphones and telephones and night talks,
i was those crumpled letters and forgotten walks.

you poured her a drink so fine
while you spilled the drink on mine.
the kind when you order soda but the store runs out
so you got water instead
like a back up plan and nothing but a second choice;

it perfectly describes me, a lost voice.
because there was always a she in my way
because i was always those paper bags when they can't use plastics on a day
because i was always a storage for them to find a back up
or those bubbles they could just easily pop.

all the hes
has their shes
the ones i love,
doesn't love me
saltwater on paper are all i see.
