Carrie had one more month of shows to finish up before her tour on this era of the album was over. That meant one month traveling on the road from city to city, not knowing where her bus was going to take her next. That also meant one month of being away from her boyfriend. She wasn't sure how this was going to go and it actually made Mike nervous.
The couple laid out on the couch watching mindless television, cuddled up against each other's bodies. There wasn't much talking, but there wasn't much watching, just basking in each other's presence.
"What are you thinking about?" Carrie asked, looking to Mike who seemed to be lost in thought.
"Nothing," he shook his head, shaking off the thoughts and directing his attention to his girlfriend, giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"You lie," she replied. "Tell me."
"It's just...you leave tomorrow," he stated.
"Right..." she said, wanting for him to continue.
"The last time one of us left...one of us ended up getting with another person," he said.
"But we weren't actually dating then," she replied.
"But we both knew we had feelings for each other whether we wanted to admit that or not," Mike added.
"It's not going to be like that this time," the blonde tried to assure him, running a hand through his brown hair.
"But you don't know that, Care," he sighed sitting up from the couch.
"Do you not trust me?" she questioned, her eyebrows beginning to crease and her arms folded to herself.
"It's not that, it's just-"
"Then what is it? Because it sure seems like you think I'm going to cheat on you of something," she started to get frustrated.
"Care, stop! I don't know, okay?!" he yelled.
"Well, let me know when you do know," she said before walking out the door, trying to hide the tears that were built up in her eyes.
She could not believe that Mike thought about her doing something like that. It was outrageous for him to think that she would ever cheat on him. A million thoughts were going through her head at the moment and none of them were good. Anger boiled through her veins that night as she made her way back into her own home that night, unable to even look at her boyfriend. All she wanted to do was yell and scream and cry, so that was exactly what she did in the comfort of her house.
After a full out meltdown, she crawled into bed completely unable to sleep. Her mind could not stop thinking. How could Mike think of her like that? She thought they were so strong. She thought he trusted her as much as she put into him. She thought that he was it for her, but maybe she was wrong. Maybe with her being away on the road things would be too complicated. Her thoughts finally brought her into a light sleep that night, none of which were answered.
Ivey and her had a girls day out planned the next day. They went shopping, to the movies, and went out to eat. As they sat down at the restaurant the girl to girl conversations that they always have began.
"So you ready for this tour? I bet you're so excited," Ivey asked in a giddy mood.
"Sure," Carrie playfully rolled her eyes.
"What is that little attitude for? You're usually so pumped about going out on the road," Ivey noted.
"Things are just complicated right now," Carrie said vaguely.
"With what? Is it Mike?" the best friend asked.
The blonde nodded, "We had an argument about it last night."
"Why?"
"He said stuff about how the last time one of us went away for a long period of time, the other found someone else."
"That is true, that's when you got with Chace," Ivey said.
"But I told him it's not going to be like that. This time, we're actually together," Carrie voiced frustratingly.
"You guys were close to being together last time as well," Ivey mentioned. "I know exactly what Mike's thought process is going through because I used to go through it all the time when Mark would leave for tour. Both of us live completely different lives when we are away from each other. When we were first dating I would always worry if he wouldn't come back or if some other girl would show up in his life."
"How did you overcome that?"
"One of our last nights together he asked if I would wait for him, and he promised me he would come back because he saw a future with me. As soon as he came back, he proposed."
"That's definitely a fairytale story," Carrie gushed.
"Yeah well, it can happen to you too," Ivey told her.
"What if he doesn't want the same thing I do?"
"Come on, Care," Ivey chuckled. "The man wouldn't be so worried if he didn't. Just talk to him."
That's exactly all she wanted to do right after those words were said. She had to talk to Mike. She didn't know if it was going to be like Ivey's fairytale ending, but she wanted nothing more than to have that. She was determined to get that, but there were steps she was going to have to take in order to get there.
