Carrie had just gotten off of the phone with her mother, telling her whole family the news or her new engagement. They could not be any happier. The thought of Carole's youngest daughter finally getting married brought her to tears. As soon as Carrie hung up the phone with her mom though, a flood of work calls started storming in, all of them pertaining to her and Mike.

"Care, my parents are here," he walked inside her bedroom to see that she was on the phone. "Oh."

"I'll be down in a minute," she whispered before continuing her phone conversation.

Mike nodded and then retreated downstairs to be with his family. His parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews had all come over for lunch to celebrate the couple. Minutes passed, and there was still no sign of Carrie. Everyone was already at the dinner table ready to eat, so Mike went back upstairs again to see Carrie still on the phone.

"Lunch is ready," Mike had told her.

"Tell them to just eat without me," she told him.

"Babe, everyone is here for us. We can't celebrate us without you."

"I know, but I'm extremely busy with all of these work calls. I'll come down when all of this chaos is dealt with."

"What's wrong with work?" he asked.

"Word got out about our engagement and literally any form of social media, magazine, newspaper, and TV show is going crazy about it so I have to give my statement out before it gets out of control," she answered.

"Didn't know this engagement was going to cause you so much trouble," Mike said aggravatingly, rolling his eyes.

"Mike, don't be that way," the blonde sighed.

"It's fine. Come downstairs, don't come downstairs. I don't care," he said before going back to join his family.

Even though he said he didn't care, he cared so much. This wasn't how he imagined their day post-engagement. He expected them to have a fun and happy celebratory lunch with his family and then have a romantic night to themselves. Instead, it was just a normal work day for Carrie which made Mike feel as though he was just being pushed aside.

"Is Carrie coming down soon?" Mike's mother asked as he sat down at the table, an empty seat beside him which was supposed to have been Carrie's.

"No, she's buried in work. She said to just eat without her."

"Well, that's a shame," Karen replied. "Do you want to bring her up a plate of food to eat?"

"She's fine," Mike replied shortly, not in the mood about talked about his fiancé anymore.

The family talked and ate in the dining room, catching up for the lost time. It had been months since Mike had gotten to be with his family and he had missed them so much. After lunch, the family sat around the living room continuing their light and fun conversations. Eventually, the beautiful blonde came down the staircase, immediately being greeted by Mike's family.

"Oh, Carrie! It's so nice you could join us!" Karen greeted her enveloping the tiny woman into her arms.

"I'm so sorry. Work was just crazy at home apparently," Carrie apologized.

"No need to be sorry. This is your day!" she told Carrie.

"Let me see the ring!" Mike's sister Meredith shouted as she approached Carrie.

Before she knew it, the whole family was gathered around her congratulating her, looking at the gorgeous rock on her finger. Mike stayed in the living room, not giving one bit of attention, which Carrie definitely took notice of. This definitely not the type of day she had in mind either. She wanted nothing but to be happy with Mike, and deep down she was elated, but not for the moment.
