chapt 36!

The next morning, Gibbs entered Director Shepards office without knocking. She looked up and took off her glasses. "How is Ziva doing?" she questioned. She figured Ziva had sonething to do with why Gibbs was here. Gibbs sat down on the edge of the glass table. "Better," he replied. "She's gettting there. Should be released in another week or so." For a few moments, he didn't say anything more. Jenny waited. "Is there something else wrong with Ziva?" she questioned him. Gibbs didn't answer. He stood and turned his back to her, bracing his hands on the table. Hunched, he exhaled. Jenny rose and softly walked over to him. "Jethro, what is it?" Lots of people called him Jethro, but to him it sounded different when she was the one saying it. "You know that I feel public workplace relationships..are unprofessional, and don't work. But I now have two of my agents in a serious relationship. Engaged, as of last night, actually."

Jenny gasped happily. "Tony and Ziva?!? Oh, Ziva must be so happy!" she exclaimed. Gibbs looked at her crossly. "What do you mean, she must be so happy? This has only been going on for 2 and a half months under my nose, unless theres something you know that I don't?" Jenny hesitated. "Well, I've always sort of known Ziva had feelings for Tony. Your disapproval has always held her back..until now." Gibbs waited. "Andddd?" he asked her. Jenny flushed. "I sort of..accidentally saw security footage from a cam in one of the back halls. It was completely obvious after that." she admitted.

Gibbs requested to see the footage, and so Jenny pulled it up on the computer. After just a few moments, Gibbs asked her to shut it off. He felt like he was invading in someone's love room by watching that!

Jenny crossed her arms and looked into Gibb's face. Gibbs finally admitted, "I don't know what to do, Jen. I'm fine with them dating, but I can't just change a team rule on the spur of the moment. I told them I would need to talk to you, to see if one of them needed to be transferred.." His face was reluctant. "Jethro, I think you should just let them be. You just said yourself, you've never seen either of them this happy in a long time. And.." she trailed off. "And what?" Gibbs prompted her. She looked away, avoiding his eyes. "And I would want Ziva to be happy. She's like my daughter. And...I remember how happy we were. Thats something she deserves." Gibbs looked away as well. "I am sorry, Jen..I wish things had been different. I wish we..agh, nevermind." he finished. Bad idea, his mind warned him.

He cleared his throat. "So you think I should actually let them both stay here? And maintain this relationship?" he questioned. Jenny nodded. She was relieved to get out of the awkwardness of the earlier conversation.

Gibbs left her office. Since they didn't have a case, he just went straight home. Thinking about relationships wore him out. Not to mention Jenny. She took away his strength and focus like nothing else. Sitting down in his kitchen, he stared at the wall. He had alot of thinking to do...
