'Just because it's broken doesn't mean it's not beautiful.'
I thought this to myself as I looked over pictures of sunsets through broken glass.
The mirrors are smashed, various fractures covering their surface. But just because the mirror is broken doesn't mean that it cannot be beautiful, that it cannot function.
I like to believe the same about human beings. Each of us broken in our own unique way, we're all currently in a broken state. I don't believe that anyone is ever whole.
It's just some people are more broken and damaged than others, some people react differently. We all cope in different ways.
Just because we're broken doesn't mean we're not beautiful. We're all beautiful in own ways, it's okay to be broken.
We need to accept the fact in life wounds are always created, with wounds come scars and with scars a permanent mark.
Once you've been wounded you are changed for life, something in your being shifts or alters. A new lesson learnt, a lesson that we try to pass onto others.
Ultimately as humans we listen but that doesn't necessarily mean that we act, if we're given knowledge we almost always test it ourselves. Then learning the lesson that the previous person had learnt, a fresh wound on ourselves which could have been prevented if we actually acted.
Our wounds and scars make us who we are, it is the scars themselves that set you out from the rest. They are your identity, they prove your strength.
Scars are also fragile, it only takes something small to prise them back open again. And then once again you have a perfectly good healed wound exposed to the elements once again. The pain we endure again.
Our scars are important, our level of brokenness proves our strength. Because if you're still here fighting today it shows courage and determination. Commitment to yourself.
The bottom line is that scars are important, they are proof of the lessons that we have learnt. The battles that we have fought and won. Sometimes scars open up again but that doesn't mean that the light doesn't shine on them.
It doesn't mean that you should have to hide them, they are beautiful. Even as broken people we are still beautiful.
It doesn't mean that we should hide in the dark forever, it doesn't mean that we can't have any light shone on us.
Don't be scared to show your scars, they're a part of who you are.
Let the light shine on your fresh wounds, your healed over scars because no matter what each and everyone is beautiful.
Broken can be beautiful too.
