Chapter Song: When It Rains by Paramore
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Looking through my fridge I heard my stomach growl for the umpth time since I got home from work. I looked around my fridge and grabbed the milk. Cereal sounded good for now. Before I could take out my milk someone knocked on my door.
I walked over to the door wondering who it was since none of my friends said they were coming over and Sam didn't say thing either. I really hope it wasn't one of my neighbors, I'm not very good talking to them. Somethings never change, I'm still not going at talking to strangers.
I hushed my dogs and tried to move them back while opened the door a crack. I was surprised to see Sam standing there. He looked distressed and emotional. I threw my door open all the way to let him in. Sam walked in and closed the door to lean against it.
"Sam?" I asked cautiously.
Sam looked at me and pulled me towards him. He held me tight and didn't let go. I didn't know what was wrong but seeing Sam like this worried me a lot. Sam is usually strong and sarcastic, and there are times when he has a serious look to him. But right now he looked sad and broken...like he lost someone.
Sam leaned to my ear and whispered, "My mom...she...she's dead."
I finally understood and held him tight. I know how hard it is loosing a parent even if Sam wasn't close to them they still raised him. I lead Sam to my room after a bit of coaxing to move away from the door. He sat on my bed and both of my dogs stayed close to Sam. I sat next to him and took his hand.
"Sam..." I spoke his name softly.
"My mom was the only family member that I didn't have a problem with. I hadn't talked to her since the new year." Sam gripped my hand. "Tomorrow after school I have to go back home and see my dad. Mia..if it's not too much can you come with me?" He looked at me, his eyes were a bit red and he looked at me with hopeful eyes.
"Yes, I'll go with you." I will be there for Sam no matter what. He nodded his head and then gave a heavy sigh.
I left Sam in my room to get food since I was still hungry and also get something for Sam. For the rest of the night he didn't want to watch TV or anything so I just did my homework. I felt his eyes watching me, occasionally I would look up and he would tried to give a smile. Though Sam did help me take my dogs out which I tried to get him to stay inside but he wouldn't listen to me. As it finally came for me to go to sleep Sam held me the whole night.
In the morning I woke up before Sam and started my morning routine of getting ready for school. First I took my dogs out and made breakfast and extra for Sam encase he wanted to eat. From there it was just getting ready. Sam woke up after I finished brushing my teeth.
"Morning...how are you doing? You can just skip school for today." I told Sam. He had bags under his eyes and all together just didn't look good.
"No, I rather not be here all alone." Sam walked in the bathroom and I went to my room to get dressed.
Seeing Sam like his broke my heart. He has already been through a lot and now his mom died. I really have to be his pillar of support until he feels better. I'm ready to be his rock since he has always been mine. With determination I was ready for school and to protect Sam as best as I could.
At school Sam told Alex, Lily, Lane, and Molly about his mom. Lily and Molly gave him a hug but he didn't return them. Lane and Alex just pat his shoulder and gave him his space. Until class started I held onto Sam's hand. I didn't want to leave him and would skip school right there and then if he asked me to. But he didn't, he gave me quick kiss and left for his class and I went to mine.
School went by slowly and at lunch Sam didn't even eat. I had to make him at least take a bite of my food because I know he didn't eat breakfast. When people tried to come over and talk to Sam everyone plus me just gave them a look to back off. After lunch I went to class and was pretty sure Sam skipped his afternoon classes except for our last class since we have it together. Mr. Bob could tell something was off with Sam and let him be.
When school ended we sat in my car. Sam sat in the driver's seat since he was going to drive us to his house. I watched him as he stared ahead. I worried but didn't want to move suddenly and just gave him time.
Sam's POV
I stared ahead in Mia's car, I really didn't want to go back home. But I had to for my mother. She was actually mending things between us. I had no clue why but now I knew why, she was sick. I put my hands on the steering wheel and gripped it until my knuckles turned white. With a deep breath I put the car into drive and drove back to my house. I wouldn't say we were rich but he weren't poor either. I used to live in a really nice neighborhood before I got kicked out. As I drove I looked over to Mia and saw her staring on ahead. She wore a curious look on her face and just taking everything in.
I pulled up to a blue house and parked the car. I turned to Mia and she looked over to me. I had to give her ground rules to make sure we make it out of this alive.
"Don't talk with my father, I'll do the talking...I just want to sort through this mess and get out as fast as I can." I said.
"Okay," Mia nodded her head in understanding.
I gathered my nerve and got out of the car and Mia followed. I walked over to the front door and opened it. It was unlocked since my father was expecting me. And there in living room was my dad reading some documents or something. The man that threw me out of this damn house. I had too many mixed emotions so I took a hold of Mia's hand.
Mia's POV
Sam took my hand when I squeezed myself inside since Sam was blocking me from entering but I'm sure it wasn't intentional. I looked around him and saw a man with light brown hair with grey here and there. He also had brown eyes. The man stood up and he was gave or take the same height as Sam. Sam's father looked nothing like him. He must have his mother's looks.
"Samuel welcome back..." Sam's father noticed me and I tried not to shrink back. "This is a private matter why did you bring... this girl here?"
"I can bring who ever I want," Sam glared at his father.
"Hnn, well I'll make this brief then. Tomorrow your mother's friends are coming over and I want you here. Also I would like for you to send word to her book club she went to. Then the funeral will be held Saturday. Then Sunday there will be a family dinner." Mr. Blake said.
"..No, all I'll do is go to the funeral and the family dinner." Sam spoke.
"..Fine, not like I expected much from you anyways." Mr. Blake glared at his own son.
"See you Saturday," Sam turned and walked out of the house with me in tow.
Once outside Sam let go of my hand and punched the side of wall. I quickly took his hand and held it.
"Sam please calm down," I whispered.
"...Let's go." Sam ripped his hand from mind and went to my car.
Sam drove me home and he switched to his car and left saying he probably won't be in school for a bit.
"Please be safe...if you want to come over do so anytime. I'm here for you Sam. I know what you are going through so please don't shut me out." I pleaded to him.
Sam took a deep breath and looked at me. "Yeah...your right. Sometime tomorrow after school I'll come over. I guess for the time being I'll stay with you." Sam gave a small smile.
"Okay, the dogs would like that." I smiled. I gave him a soft kiss and he left.
I headed up to my apartment and did my chores and then sat on the couch. The dogs jumped up and sat next to me. Many thoughts ran through my head about Sam. I hoped he made it back okay. I am glad that he will be staying with me, that way I can make sure he's okay and eats. I was too sad to eat when my parents died and lost a lot of weight. Not until Aunt Sophia spoke with me did I finally start to eat again. I hope I can be someone that Sam can lean onto.
"I really hope Sam will be okay." I said to the dogs.
