Chapter Song: Dreaming (The Chainsmokers Remix) by Smallpools
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It's been about two weeks since the family dinner with Sam and since he started to live with me. Lane almost didn't let Sam leave when he was packing his things up. Lane had attached himself to Sam's leg so he couldn't leave. I was having a hard time not laughing at Lane being over dramatic. It's been nice having Sam live with me and it seems like he is doing better.
I was at working right after school since Sam can head home and take out the dogs for me. I was putting books on a shelf when I heard the door ring open.
"Welcome, just a moment please." I call out and set the books down.
I walked over and stopped in my tracks. I saw Tyler, Sam's older brother. I hadn't a clue as to why he was even here. I looked around hoping someone else might walk in or the owners. But no such luck.
"Hey no need to look so scared," Tyler joked.
"I'm not scared...Sam just told me to stay away." I look back at him.
"Well I'm glad he isn't here. I wanted to talk to you."
"About what?" I asked.
"I want to reconnect with Sam but he hates my guts. Since you're his girlfriend and seem really friendly I was hoping you could tell me about him and how he's been doing."
I look at Tyler to see if he was being sincere. He seemed like he was. I didn't know if Sam would like me doing this but if I can get him to reconnect with at least one family member I think he would like that. Sam hasn't told me much as to why he hates Tyler other than that he got Sam kicked out.
"Okay I will help but no funny business." I warn him.
Tyler held his hands up, "No funny business."
"Well I have to finish putting these books up, you can talk to me while I do that." I turn back to the shelf.
"So what has Sam been up to?" Tyler asked.
"Not much, other than being an apprentice at a tattoo shop and school." I spoke.
"He wants to be a tattoo artist?"
"Yep, he designed this tattoo for me," I held up my left hand to show him the white ink tattoo of the moon and stars.
"It's kind of hard to see," Tyler said.
"Yeah that was the point, I am still in high school. When I turn 18 I might get it in color and touched up." I smile.
I heard his phone go off and Tyler looked at his phone. "I hate to cut this short but I have to go. I'll be back another time...is that okay?" Tyler asked.
"Yeah," I nodded.
Tyler left and I continued my work in silence. I really hope that Sam and Tyler can reconnect.
A few days has passed and Tyler has visited everyday since then. He has also been asking about Sam and occasionally about me which I don't mind. Though I hate lying to Sam, he always ask how work was and I have to tell him that it was usual and boring. I can't tell him about Tyler yet. I have to make sure Tyler is serious about reconnecting with Sam. Then I can slowly start talking about Tyler to Sam.
At lunch we talked about the upcoming test in math. Sam turns to me and I look at him.
"I don't have to work with Wolf today so I'm going to chill out with you at work for a bit." Sam smiles.
"Okay, just know that it's boring." I say to him.
"Boring is fine," Sam shrugs.
I wished right there and then that I had Tyler's number so I can text him to not come. I just hope he doesn't show until after Sam leaves or before he comes.
"You look like you don't want me to come," Sam raises an eyebrow.
"N-no that's not it, I'm just thinking it will be boring for you." I lied.
"I'll be fine," Sam kissed the side of my head.
School ended like normal and Sam dropped me off at work while he went back to take the dogs out. I waited until either Tyler or Sam showed up and hoping not at the same time. I was fixing things around the bookstore and heard the door chime and walked fast over to see Tyler.
"Tyler!"
"Wow are you happy to see me," he smirks, it looked like Sam's but not quite.
"Yes and no, Sam is on his way over right now. You have to leave fast." I start to push him towards the door.
"Really?! Maybe I should stay so we can talk." Tyler looks at me.
"No! I haven't told Sam about talking with you yet. You and your father are a very touchy subject for him." I said.
I looked out the door and saw Sam heading over luckily he was looking at his phone. "Shit!" I whisper. I pull Tyler over to the cashier area and told him to be quiet and stay hidden.
I try to calm my breathing before Sam entered but that was hard to do.
"Hey Mia," Sam calls to me.
Before he could get close I said to him, "Hey did I leave my cell in the car? I can't find it."
"I didn't see it, want me to check the car." Sam asked.
"Yes please, thanks!" I smile as he walks back out.
"You are a good liar," Tyler smirks as he got up and headed towards the door.
"Shut up! I hate lying to him." I sighed.
Tyler look out a piece of paper with a number on it and handed it to me, "My number so this doesn't happen again or until the time is right." Tyler smiles and leaves.
I look at the piece of paper and then Sam came back in. I quickly stuff the paper into my pocket.
"Uhh, your phone wasn't in the car." Sam looks at me weird.
"...Oh! Actually I forgot that I put it in my bag." I laughed.
"You okay? You are acting weird and what was that paper?" Sam asked as he neared me.
"Nothing just a note from the owners, and I don't think I'm acting weird." I smile.
"Alright..." Sam stared at me and I had to look away. So I then pretend to go restock some books.
I should slowly start mentioning Tyler because I can't lie to Sam anymore.
