Chapter 2

Monday morning went by in peace with no sign of Chris anywhere. The last time I had seen him was on Friday when he made that stupid comment about this year being different. I made the most of Chris's absense, relishing in the joy that he wasn't here to annoy me.

"You look awfully happy." Clara commented as we walked to the cafeteria for lunch.

I gave her a bright smile. "I know." I said enthusiastically. "A Chris free day is a happy day."

"I wouldn't speak to soon." Clara chuckled. "Look who's sitting over there."

I looked in the direction Clara was pointing and sadly, I saw Chris.

"Oh no, he's here." I muttered, my tone filled with worry. "Maybe I can sneak in, grab some lunch and sneak back out. He won't see me. What do you think?" I turned my head to look at Clara, only to find that she had disappeared.

Where the heck did she go? I looked around the cafeteria, my eyes searching for the petite blonde. Finally, I spotted her, she was standing by a table full of boys...wait, those boys were Chris and his friends. Damn that girl.

I decided to make a run for it and just as I was about to, I heard my name being called.

"Jenna." A masculine voice shouted. "Where are you going?"

I turned my head and saw that Clara was pointing at me, showing Chris where I was. That girl was so dead.

"Haha, nowhere really." I laughed nervously. "Just heading to the umm, the ughh, the chess club. Yeah, the chess club. Don't you just love chess? I absolutely adore it, even though I've never played before but there's a first time for everything right? And-"

My rambling came to a stop when Chris pressed a hand over my mouth. When he got over here, I don't actually know but all I cared about now was getting away from him.

"Gosh, you talk a lot." Chris stated, raising an eyebrow at me.

I tried to speak but failed miserably, seeing as Chris' hand was still over my mouth. I pointed at his hand and mimed moving it, sighing in relief when Chris did exactly what I asked him to do.

"Never do that again." I started. "Anyways, nice seeing you. I gotta go now."

"To the chess club?" Chris raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his face.

"To the chess club." I confirmed.

"Okay then, I'll go with you. We'll have a match."

Oh no. This wasn't good, not good at all. "I don't think that's such a good idea." I said nervously, biting my bottom lip.

"Why not?" Chris questioned. "Afraid you'll lose?"

Me afraid of losing? Never. "No." I stated, giving him a glare. "Bring it on, big boy. I'm gonna kick your ass."

Chris let out a laugh. "Yeah right. More like I'm gonna kick your ass."

I crossed my arms over my chest, still glaring at the evil being in front of me. "Alright then, lets have a bet."

Chris instantly stopped laughing when he heard the word bet. Seems like I had his undivided attention.

"If I win, you won't try to kiss me this year, and if you win-"

"I get 10 days to make you fall in love with me." Chris interrupted me.

"Okay." I agreed easily.

Wait, backtrack. What did Chris just say? Something about love and 10 days? I replayed what Chris had just said in my head.

"I get 10 days to make you fall in love with me."
