Chapter 10
My first reaction this morning when I woke up was to scream. And my reason being for screaming?
Snow.
Caleb came running into my room at 9 am, jumping onto me and landing heavily on my stomach. My eyes instantly opened from the force of his weight on me and I let out a choked breath.
"Oh-my-god!" I breathed. "Caleb, you're killing me!"
Caleb looked at me with those innocent, doe-like eyes of his as he flashed me a pout. Damn, he knew just how to make that face completely irresistable. "Sowwwy Jenna!"
My heart instantly melted at his words and I opened my arms for a hug, a small grin on my face. "It's okay, buddy. Now give me a hug."
Caleb immediately jumped into my embrace, wrapping his small, 4-year old arms around my neck. When we pulled back, I asked him, "So why did you wake me up so early?"
The corner of Caleb's lips turned up into an adorable smile and his eyes brightened profusely. "Look outside, Jenna." He told me as he pointed towards my window.
I raised an eyebrow, confused by what he had said, but I made no objection. I rose from my bed and not so elegantly tripped over the edge of my duvet, which happened to be hanging off the side. I heard Caleb giggle from behind me and I muttered a quick be quiet before making my way to my window.
As I pushed the curtains apart, my eyes widened and I sucked in a breath. There were millions of tiny, intricate snowflakes falling gently from the sky, covering everything in sight. Everywhere you looked, you saw white. The ground was white, the trees were white, the houses were white. Everything was completely covered.
And I loved it.
"Ahhhhhhhhhh!" I shrieked. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!"
Suddenly, the door flew open, hitting my bedroom wall with a loud bang. "What is it? What's wrong?" Tom asked urgently, a frantic look on his face.
Caleb, who had been casually sitting on my bed with his legs crossed, replied, "Nothing's wrong. Jenna is just excited about the snow."
Tom's head instantly turned to look at me and he glared. "You idiot, you scared the hell out of me!"
"Sorry bro." I told him sincerely. I couldn't believe he was worried. Usually he didn't give a damn about me, but it was good to know he still cared.
Tom grunted before making his way over to my window. As soon as he saw the winter wonderland outside, a big grin broke out onto his face and he immediately ran back to his room. "Come on guys!" I heard him call. "Lets go outside!"
Caleb let out a woop as he rose, jumping off my bed and landing heavily on my hard wood floor. The light pads of his footsteps could be heard as he too, went off to his room.
Then, out of nowhere, a scream was heard; a loud, high-pitched noise of horror. I winced and slightly covered my ears with my hands. Sadly, it didn't do much to help.
"Jen! Stop it!" I heard Tom shout.
"It's not me!" I shouted back, slightly offended.
"Then who the hell-" Tom broke off mid-sentence as he came to a realisation. "-Kate!"
I heard loud and furious footsteps storm across the hallway, passing by my room. Uh oh, Tom's on a rampage.
"Kate, why the fuck are you screaming?"
Oh my gosh, my little brother just swore. And never in his whole existence of 8 years has he sworn. It seems like I'll have to go into older sister mode.
