Chapter 8

"Jenna! Wake up." Someone called as they grabbed my blanket and threw it off of me.

I instantly started shivering from the cold and reluctantly opened my eyes, rubbing my arms in attempt to warm me up. I squinted my eyes as the sunlight that was escaping from behind my window curtain shone in my face.

"What do you want Kate?" I groaned as I slowly sat up and reached over for my blanket.

Kate grinned and cocked her head to the side as she said in a sing-song voice, "Guess who's coming today?"

I pursed my lips as I thought of who she was talking about. At the moment, no names were coming to mind.

"Come on!" Kate urged as she placed a hand on her hip. "Don't tell me you've forgotten. You seem to be getting pretty cosy with him lately."

My eyes widened as I gaped at Kate with shock. "I am not getting cosy with him. At all." I pointed out defiantly. "And Chris always comes on Sundays to babysit. So what's so special about today?"

Kate gave me a look like she couldn't believe that I had just said that. "Are you being serious? The whole world can see that you two are getting close so don't deny it. And there's nothing really special about today-I just that you'd be happy to know that Chris is coming."

And happy I was. In fact, I was ecstatic. My heart started beating faster and my pulse was racing just at the mere mention of Chris' name. I was so worked up and Chris wasn't even here yet. I couldn't even bear to think about how I would be around Chris. He was awakening all of these new feelings inside of me that I didn't even know existed.

"You are happy, aren't you?"

"What are you talking about?" I pretended to play dumb. "Chris is annoying so there's no reason to be happy."

Kate raised an eyebrow as she gave me an evil grin. "The smile on your face says otherwise."

Much to my surprise, I realised that I had, in fact, been goofily smiling whilst thinking of Chris.

Damn.

"So I can't even smile now without thinking of Chris?" Was my great comeback.

"I never said that." Kate sighed as if she thought she was talking with a 3 year old.

"Well it sure sounded like it. You know Kate, it's a free world so I can do whatever I want and smile whenever I feel like it. Smiling is a basic human right and-"

"Okay, okay. Calm down sis. I don't want to hear all your crap please."

"It's not crap!" I argued with a frown as I reached for the small, heart-shaped pillow beside me.

"Uh-huh, yeah right. And Logan Lerman isn't my husband." Kate replied sarcastically.

"Well he is in your dreams." I pointed out and with that, I threw the pillow in Kate's face.

Kate let out a scream of frustration as she stood on my bedroom floor with her eyes closed tightly and her hands balled into fists beside her thighs. The pillow was lying neatly on the ground beside her feet and when Kate opened her eyes, it only took one look before I took off out of bed and ran for the bathroom.

"Get back here!" Kate yelled after me. "You can't just do that and run away!"

I didn't answer as I quickly slammed the bathroom door shut behind me. I did not want to face the wrath of Kate. She was deadly-and I mean extremely deadly-when she was mad. So the best thing to do in times like this was to get away and let her cool off.
