09. Louis

"I understand, Paul, but I'm really trying," I muttered into the phone to the head security guard, Paul, "it's hard to get back up after falling down so many times. I've got bumps and bruises that still need to be healed."

"Yes, Louis, we know. Rob isn't understanding this. You know how it is for him. Money. Money. Money. He said that you have to be back by the given date and if you're not, well, you'll have to face the consequences," Paul sighed, "the team really wants you to take your time and get better but your idiot of a manager is so selfish."

I rolled my eyes, "Sometimes, I wish I wasn't part if One Direction. No need to please a stuck up prick like Rob."

"You don't really mean that, do you kid?"

I closed my eyes, "I don't mean it, Paul. I just wish he gave us time to breathe; to do us."

"Yes, I know where you're going with this."

"I should probably let you go. Thanks for calling, Paul. I'll be seeing you soon."

"You will be," he chuckled, "keep yourself happy with that girl because you've been smiling loads when she's with you. Okay. Bye."

He hung up before I could say anything to him about Radley.

I shook my head and smiled. The paparazzi must've gotten pictures of us and given them to magazines. I wonder what kind of bogus was written about us. Curiosity taking the best of me, I padded into my bedroom where Radley was fast asleep. I put on a jumper, a pair of joggers, and a jacket on before finding a scrap piece of paper to write a note.

Rad,

Morning, sleeping beauty. Didn't want to wake you but I'm just going out for a while. Need to clear my head. Don't worry your pretty little mind about me because I'll be back very soon, babe.

L xx

I folded the paper and set it on my pillow because the first thing she does when she wakes up is run her fingers through my hair. When she realizes that my head isn't next to hers, she'll see the note.

I stood there for a minute, hesitating on my next move. I had a 'fuck it' moment and leaned down to kiss her forehead.

I quickly made my way out of the room and headed for the door.

All I needed to do was get a few magazines that were talking about me and Radley, pick up something to eat, and then come back and help clean the penthouse for Harry and Niall's arrival.

I put my hood over my head and started walking down the street. It was really cold and it began to snow. New York looks the best during the winter time; especially when it is covered in a thick blanket of snow.

"Louis Tomlinson?" I heard someone whisper, "You're Louis Tomlinson!"

I turned my head to see a girl around my age- maybe younger- staring at me with the biggest smile on her face.

"Hi! Sorry to be a bother! I'm just such a big fan!" She smiled.

"Hello, love! As long as you're not the annoying, I'm-going-to-sob-uncontrollably fan, then you aren't a bother. How are you?"

"I'm really good. Yourself?"

"I'm swell. Thought of get some alone time today."

"Oh, right. Your new girlfriend must keep you busy."

"Girlfriend? What girlfriend?" I asked.

"My apologies but I've read that you've started to date someone again."

"I wish to date her but I'm not actually dating her. She just got out of a really messed up relationship and I'm just trying to be a good friend."

"I bet you don't have to try so hard. You're generally such a good human being, it must be effortless to be a good friend."

I tittered at the compliment, "Thank you..."

"The name is Elise." She smiled.

"Thank you, lovely Elise. You are too kind," I grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it, "would you like a picture?"

"If you don't mind? I don't want to hold you up from what you're doing."

"You're such a sweetheart! Of course I don't mind," she handed me her phone and we took a selfie, "have a wonderful holiday, Elise."

"You too, Louis. And happy early birthday!"

"Thank you!"

I continued to walk down the street and finally neared the little magazine kiosk. I casually picked up a few magazines that had my name on the cover as well as a few on football.

"Will that be all for you?" The guy who worked at the kiosk asked.

"Yes," I paid the fee, "thank you, good sir.

I called into my favourite Italian restaurant and ordered take out. As I made my way to the restaurant, I took out a magazine. I realized that none of them showed Radley's face. Which was a good thing because I didn't need her psycho ex boyfriend come after the both of us.

The headlines for this particular magazine read 'Louis Tomlinson and mystery girl caught buying Christmas tree together. Read more, page 20'.

I flipped through the pages and saw a very blurry image of Radley getting ready to jump on one of the paparazzi. I chuckled, remembering her outburst as she stood up for me.

The next few magazines showed multiple photos of us kissing right by my car after we visited her family.

It was ridiculous how obsessed the paparazzi can be with celebrities. We had no private moments, ever.

"For Tommo?" The waiter called.

"Right here. Thanks, mate." I put my hoodie over my head once again before exiting the restaurant.

My phone started to ring as soon as I started walking. I quickly answered it.

"Hello!" I sang, "You've got ahold of Louis 'the Tommo' Tomlinson!"

"Loubear..." She whined, "Louis. I miss you."

My breath hitched and slowed down my pace, "Coco?"

"Yes, Louis. It's me. I miss you."

"What do you want?"

"I want you, babe. I want to be with you again. Can we talk about what happened between us? Please, Louis."

"I-I don't think that is a good idea."

"Don't you miss me, Lou? How we use to be? How we kissed? How we hugged? How we lost ourselves in each other?"

I allowed myself to think about everything she was saying. Every kiss, every touch, every hug, everything was slowing crawling back into my mind. Did I miss all those things? Yes, I missed all of it but I didn't miss her. Not one bit.

"Listen, I do miss everything we had but I don't miss you, Coco. You hurt me more than anyone could fathom. I wanted us to work but you didn't. I loved you but you didn't. Now I've moved on and you're trying wedge yourself back into my life. That is not right, Coco."

"Louis. I know you still love me!"

"I don't. I'm sorry but I don't anymore."

She was silent for a few seconds before speaking up, "It's because that bitch has you blinded. She's doing everything in her power to make you not think of me."

"You are wrong."

"She wants you for your money. She doesn't like you for you, Louis; only for your fame and fortune. She isn't good for you but I am," she muttered, "at least I had my own place to stay. She's been living with you for almost two months."

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Shut up, Coco. I am hanging up."

"Don't worry, Lou. I'll be out there tomorrow. We can talk things through and I'll show you that I'm worthy." She quickly hung up and I groaned.

I made my way up to the penthouse and struggled to unlock the door. When I managed to get it open, I was welcomed to Christmas music and engulfed by the aroma of something sweet.

Radley was in the kitchen, dancing around and taking two trays of what looked like shortbread cookies out the oven.

"All I want for Christmas is you!" She sang, before finally meeting my eyes and hastily turned off the music, "Shit! I didn't think you'd be back yet. I apologize for making you hear my horrid singing voice."

I rolled my eyes and and pushed past her, walking to the refrigerator so I could put the food inside.

"So I made shortbread cookies today. Dad and I made them all the time before Josh. I don't think they're as good but I want you to be the judge of that."

"I think I'll pass." I muttered, walking towards the living room and plopping myself onto the couch.

I heard a bit of clanking behind me before Radley came and sat next to me with a plate full of cookies. They looked scrumptious.

"Come on, Louis! I want to know if your friends will like them."

"No, Radley."

"Please! They won't kill you!"

I flipped the plate out of her hands and stood up.

"Goddamn it, Radley! I said no! Don't you fucking understanding English?"

She shrank into the couch, "S-sorry."

"Gosh, no you're not! Why are so fucking clingy? People need space sometimes and you aren't giving that to me."

"I don't mean to be." Radley started to clean up the mess I made and it annoyed me that she wasn't even paying attention to me as I spoke.

I gripped onto her upper arm and snarled, "Look at me when I talk to you."

"Ow, Louis. You're h-hurting me."

I released her, "Why are you here? You want to use my fame to get popular? You want my money? What do you want?"

"You asked me to stay with you," she whispered, "I don't want anything."

"God, I should've just let you jump that night. I didn't have to put up with your fake shit."

"What?"

"Did I fucking stutter? I should've let you jump. How could I be so stupid?"

Tears formed in her eyes, "Fuck you, Louis. You are such an asshole."

Radley stormed off to the spare bedroom and locked herself in. I sighed and carded my fingers through my hair. Coco is messing with my head.

The penthouse was already clean, except for the kitchen. I managed to stick a cookie in my mouth and I swear, I went to heaven. I tidied up the appliances and went to my room to shower.

I dried off my body and put on clean clothes before I got a call.

"Hello?" I mumbled.

"Hey, we'll be there in about ten minutes." Harry said.

"Yeah, I'm waiting."

"There is clearly something bothering you. We will talk about this when we get there, okay?"

"Okay." I hung up and went to the spare room. I knocked softly. She didn't respond but I heard broken sobs. I knocked again before speaking, "Radley. Open up. Please."

"Go away." She yelled.

"Babe, open this door. I want to talk to you."

I waited a few seconds before it was cracked open.

"What?" She spat, harshly.

"Come out here," I said, pushing the door open wider before wrapping my arms around her tightly, "I am so sorry for everything I said to you, love. I am so happy that I didn't let you jump. Having you in my life was the best decision I've ever made. I am so, so sorry. Please forgive me."

"You were so mean." She whispered, sounding so vulnerable.

"I know."

"You scared me."

"I didn't mean to, love. I swear."

"The way you flung that plate out of my hands. Caleb did that to me once and then he hurt me. I thought you were going to do the same. I'm sorry that you think I want your money or that I want to use your fame to get popular. I can always go back to Caleb if I'm a bother. I just assumed that you wanted me to stay because you brought me here."

"Hey, shh. Don't apologize to me, darling. I shouldn't have acted up like that. I would never lay a finger on you. My ex called today and she put all these things in my mind," I kissed her forehead, "I won't ever let you go back to him. He doesn't deserve you. I don't even deserve having you here but I promise I won't ever hurt you. I am so sorry."

Radley wrapped her arms tightly around my torso, "It's okay."

I sighed in contentment before speaking, "Those cookies were marvellous, by the way."

"You actually liked them?"

"Yeah. Niall and Harry will definitely love them. Speaking of the two, they'll be here very soon so if you want to clean yourself up, you've still got time."

"I just need to wash my face and put a new shirt on."

"Okay, you go do that," I said, quietly, "I'll heat up the food."

She nodded and headed towards our room. I quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her back so I could place a kiss on her lips. She pulled back and I winked, causing her to blush. I finally let her go and went to warm up the food.

There was a knock on the door and I literally ran to answer it.

"Boys!" I screamed, tackling them to the ground.

"Oh, my god! Louis!" Harry squealed.

"Lou, mate! Missed ya tons." Niall chuckled.

I got off them and helped them up before hugging them individually, "Come in, guys. Make yourselves at home."

The took a seat on the couch and Niall immediately went for the cookie, "Wow! Sex in my mouth!"

I smiled and sat between them, "I missed you guys."

"We missed you, too. Liam and Zayn wanted to come too but they're spending time with their girlfriends," Harry patter my knee, "I know we just got here but you wanna tell me why you were so upset earlier?"

I groaned, "Fucking Coco called today and she put a bunch of this crap about Radley in my head. I came home and got mad at her and she started to cry and I am just a horrible person. Coco said she's coming to New York tomorrow so if one of you guys could send out a false tweet that I moved into a different penthouse, I will owe you my life."

"On it," Niall said, mouth full of cookies, "'Louis' new penthouse in New York is sick!' How does that sound?"

"Perfect!"

"Hey, speaking of Radley. Where is this girl? Doesn't she, like, live with you?"

"Yeah, she just had to do a few things." I smiled.

"Do you like her?" Niall asked, "In all the pictures that I've seen so far have you smiling like an idiot so I'm just wondering."

I turned myself completely so i could put my hands on his shoulders, "Mate, I'm in love."

"You're shitting me!" Harry said.

"I don't think I am. She makes me really happy. I actually enjoy being around her."

"Wow, dude, I'm so happy for you. I bet she treats you right because I've never seen you look or sound this content."

"I still need to meet her before I judge her." Niall shrugged.

"Ni, I beg you, please do not be an asshole. She's been through a lot. Trust me, she doesn't need anymore mean people in her life."

"Sorry, Lou! I couldn't find that shirt and wow, they're already here." Radley said, coming out in one of my v-necks. She stuck out her hand for the both of them, "Hi, I'm Radley. It's a pleasure to meet you both."

"The pleasure is all ours, sweetheart," Harry smiled before kissing the back of her hand, "I'm Harry and you're beautiful."

"Cute and cheeky, I like that." She smirked.

I shoved Harry and mouthed 'back off' as soon as she turned her attention to Niall.

"Hi! You must be the boyfriend of Mr Harry."

"Yes and you must stop hitting on him."

"Don't worry, I don't go after taken men. You're okay," she winked, "it'd be nice if you officially introduced yourself, hot stuff."

Niall turned bright red. He always felt embarrassed and shy when people complimented him.

"Niall Horan."

"Hmm," she pursed her lips, "Harry, Louis, I think you two are safe because wow this Niall fellow is wow. I want him."

"Go for it! Louis and I can make Larry real. Ain't that right, babe?" Harry laughed, kissing me cheek.

"Of course! Larry for life!" I joked.

"No, no, no. We worked really hard to come out to everyone, I'm not letting you throw that away, Radley." Niall pouted, pushing me away from Harry.

She laughed and we put an arm around each other.

"Don't stress, Niall. I've got my Louis; I'm all set."

I couldn't help but blush and duck my head into her neck, "Stop being so cute. My face is hurting."

She giggled, "You're the one being cute! Look at that red creeping your cheeks."

"So, um, you two gonna tell us what's going on or..." Harry trailed off.

"Going on where?" Radley asked.

Harry rolled his eyes in a joking manner and gestured between Radley and I.

"Um, nothing is going on, you ninny." I muttered.

Radley smiled, "You two must be starving. Should we eat?"

"Yes!" Niall threw his arms in the air, "Eating is good!"

She threw her head back in laughter and walked into the kitchen with Niall, "I like this Irish one."

"And Louis likes you." Harry whispered from beside me, giving me a cheeky grin.
