She would certainly be a fearsome thing to behold
–Jane Austin, Pride and prejudice.
(Draco's POV)
Draco was strolling around the great lake. He always did that when he needed time to think, and to gather his thoughts. In fact, that was just what he needed to do. The last couple of days he hadn't thought of anything but one person. One very special person; Hermione.
It didn't make any sense. He was thinking of her. Desperately trying not to, but he couldn't contain himself. He was picturing her beautiful hazel eyes staring into his silver ones. In his mind, she was staring at him with a genuine smile. Although, she had never once looked at him that way. I want her to though. I need her to. Draco could only hope that one day she would look at him with something else than hatred.
He needed to stop thinking about her, because this was insane. How was he, Draco Malfoy sitting here longing after Hermione Granger? The insanity of it all slowly drove him to sleep under a white oak tree.
............
Draco walked into the great hall. Not with his usual swagger, but with something that reminded of insecurity. He carefully took his place between Pansy and Blaise at the Slytherin table. "Drake, are you okay?" Pansy asked trying to be sweet, while leaning her head against his shoulder. Draco shook her off. "I'm tired. Please leave me alone." Obeying his request, she quickly turned her attention towards the rest of the Slytherin gang,
As he was sitting there, his glance swept over the room, and landed on the Gryffindor table. Just where Hermione was sitting. She was laughing about something the weaslette had said. She was pretty, smiling like that, he thought to himself. The good thought was quickly removed when he was brought back to reality. She had never ever smiled to him. Not ever.
(Hermione's POV)
Hermione noticed Draco looking at her, from the corner of her eye. She really tried to ignore him, but something inside of her wanted to look back. Therefore, she did. She met his gaze, and stared into his eyes. His look tensed when he realised that she was looking directly at him.
Her heart was beating one million beats an hour. He looked like he had just seen his best friend die. Although he was Draco Malfoy, he didn't deserve that feeling. She knew it all too well. She wanted to make him feel better with all her heard. Something that was incredibly strange. Hermione only knew one thing she could do. She smiled a genuine smile.
Draco's eyes was even more shocked and tense than they had been before. In fact, Hermione didn't think she had ever seen someone look that stunned. Slowly his gaze softened and something that reminded her a little of a smile appeared on his face.
Her eyes gave him one last smile, before turning her attention towards Ginny who was busy drooling after Harry. Ginny's crush was so obvious, that only Harry Potter could be so oblivious that he didn't notice.
