She called herself Sammy, not Sunshine or Meadow. She had always kept her true name hidden as others when hearing it would make fun of her.
She was horribly teased in grade school, so when her family moved, she would not answer to her name and told them to call her Sammy from now on.
Her full name was Sunshine Meadow Mays and she made sure when she was enrolled in her new school her name appeared legally changed to Sammy Mays.

When her mother stopped breathing, Sammy screamed and her emotions caused her to shift early. She called out for them with her mind but it was too late.
She was found two days later, in wolf form, laying with her head on her mother's body. Protecting and mourning both her parents being ripped away from her.
