'Why am I here?' Alex thought to himself as he crossed the Hudson. His duel with Burr was in about half an hour. 'This is such a bad idea. Burr is over reacting. I could just apologize but what good would that do, I would be lying anyway. Not that I haven't lied to Burr before...' Alexander's thoughts rambled on like that until the boat suddenly stopped. He was there. Time for his duel. They went through the regulations and the only thing Alex could think about was John's duel with Charles Lee. John was willing to die to defend what Alex believed. He smiled fondly at the ground at the bittersweet though of John Laurens. 'I might see Laurens soon' Alex thought. Alexander put on his glasses to see if Burr was softening. Maybe he would call the duel off last minuet and they could all go hoe and forget this ever happened. Alexander could go back home to his Eliza and his children and Burr could go back to whoever lives in his house. Sadly Burr showed no sign of stopping this duel without an apology. The only thing he got from Aaron was a nasty scowl. They started to put Alex and Burr into their paces. "1 2 3-"  Now it was time. Aim towards the sky or aim at Burr. Risk his own life or kill a man. 'What would John want him to do?' Alexander looked down at his gun then back up. He saw John smiling back at him. 'It's your time Alex.' Alexander took a deep breath. His mother and son came as well. 'Aim towards the sky Dad. It's the right thing to do.' 'Im so sorry Philip' alexander whispered tears threatening to fall. 'All is forgiven dad, but you need to turn around' "8 9 NUMBER 1O PACES FIRE!" He raises his pistol to the sky. A burning pain runs through Alexander's ribs. "WAIT!" Burr screams. Alexander looked down to his side, blood had started to stain his shirt. As Alex fell to the ground he saw Burr's face. It had an expression that mixed regret, surprise, and sadness. Some arms grabbed at him and picked him up and that was the last thing he saw before he passed out. Alex woke up again on a hard table. He owned at the intense pain still coming from his ribs. "Angelica he's waking up!" He heard a familiar voice say. It was the voice of Eliza, his wife. "Eliza I'm so sorry," Alexander rasps. His throat was dry. "Shh shh save your strength," Eliza said gripping her husband's hand. Alexander could feel himself slipping. he turns his head to look at Angelica. He new she wasn't pleased with his actions. "Angelica promise me to take care of my wife please." Alex knew he was in no position to ask anything of angelica at all but he needed to know his family would be ok after he was gone. "Ok, Alexander but know this, I'm not doing this for you. Im doing it for her because she's going to be a mess after you're gone. She really loves you." At this point Eliza was sobbing. Alex turns his head to look back at Eliza. "Eliza, my love, take your time. I'll see you on the other side." Alexander's last thoughts were of Eliza. Then he closed his eyes one last time.
