We all have different opinions of faith. Some say it's pointless. Why have faith if it doesn't make a difference? But does it? That's the real question. Does faith make a difference in a situation?
What is faith? We all have our own definitions. None of them are wrong. To me, having faith is believing something will happen. It doesn't even have to be in God or any god at all. It could be in a person.
No matter how pointless we think faith is, we all had it at some point. That's the one thing every person on earth has in common. It's not just a religious thing, so religion doesn't make a difference.
I'm a Christian, but a lot of the time (and I'm just being honest) I don't have faith in God. My friends can see that. They're constantly putting me in check. They ask me all the time. "Where is your faith?" It's just not there. I do, however, have faith in people depending on the situation. I want to have faith that people will do the right thing. But do they? Of course not. People do horrible things daily, but that doesn't mean we can't have faith that they could change for the better one day. However, there are those people you know very well that won't do the right thing and will never change and become a better person. If that's the case, I honestly won't even bother putting faith in that person because they'll just let me down.
I don't really think faith can really bring good into people's lives because to me it's just a feeling. Just because you feel like something is going to happen, doesn't mean it will. It doesn't mean it won't either, but it's not up to us to decide what is going to happen and how everything is going to end; it's the other person's. Having faith doesn't change the outcome of a situation. you can believe and believe and believe and that doesn't mean it'll happen. It's kind of like believing in Santa Clause as a child only to find out he doesn't actually exist, and that there are no such thing as flying reindeer and magical elves (sorry if there are little kids reading this). Just because you have faith that your unfaithful boyfriend/girlfriend will stop cheating on you, doesn't mean they will.
I definitely don't think that having faith in a god or gods makes you a better person than the other. It's actually one of my biggest pet peeves when people act like they are. When people put you down because you didn't have faith in something, just ignore them. There is absolutely no reason to feel bad. You had your reasons for not putting faith in that person or a god just like they had a reason to put faith in them. No one is right and no one is wrong.
I'm not saying you're stupid if you have faith in God. If you have faith in him, good for you. Even though I basically grew up in church, my relationship with God was never as great as people say it should be. I honestly don't know if I even believe in him at all.
What I am trying to say though is that it's fine to have faith in some things. I think if you had to choose faith in something, you should have faith in yourself and your future. That is the one thing you can control. The one thing where you can decide how a situation will end. Have faith that you will make the right decisions.
