Clothes. How can girls buy so much clothes!? We've been here for hours and all Chloe has done is say "Does this look good on me?" And "Does this match?" It's insane! I mean to me, everything is the same.
"Chloe, I know I promised you a trip to the mall for some new clothes, but why does it have to take so long?. We're lucky my mom decided to walk home, or else she'd be really aggravated." I gave a sort of sarcastic laugh and Chloe gave me a look that said she'd be done already if I wasn't nagging all the time. I shrugged this off and pulled out my new drivers license.
The picture on the license was an embarrassment. In the picture you can see me trying to get something out of my teeth with my tongue, so it looks like I have a huge amount of food in my mouth. But, you live and you learn right?
---
When Chloe finally got done with her shopping the bill was too big for her to afford. I ended up having to pay $120.34. As you can imagine, this made me mad.
We entered the car and I said nothing to her. I didn't even go so close as to look at her. Shows how fast a good day can go bad. She spoke.
"Tyler?.... Tyler.... Tyler I'm sorry it was that much. I can go return it if you want." She said begin for forgiveness from me.
"It's not about that." I said. She looked at me guiltily. She went in for a hug and I kind of sent her off. She looked at me upset.
"Why.." She pouted. I gave her a sort of, not now look.
"Tyler why are you mad at me!?" She yelled this time and so I got madder.
"You're not responsible! You said the bill would be under $100 and that you'd be able to pay for it!" I say.
"You said it wasn't about the money!"
"It's not!"
"Then what's it about?!"
"..." I sat there silenced. "It's about what I was going to do WITH the money. The fact that now I have to work my ass off for 120 more dollars, then the 300 I already needed, that's what makes me mad."
"What were you going to do with the money?"
"Doesn't matter." Chloe Got mad at me for this.
"You know what Tyler!? If you don't wanna tell me what's wrong, then I don't want to know!" She says. Tension builds up inside of me.
"I WAS GONNA BUY YOU A RING! Okay! God damn!..." I speed past a yellow light, in my book, they mean go faster.
"...what? What do you mean buy me a ring? I'm only sixteen years old... I'm not getting married any time soo-" I cut her off.
"I DON'T WANT TO MARRY YOU! It was gonna be a promise ring! A promise that no matter what, we'd stay friends..." I was gonna get us both one, but they cost over one thousand dollars. I was gonna give it to you in two weeks when I had enough to pay for both." She doesn't speak for a while, knowing that I'm mad at her.
---
When we get home, I go to my room. Chloe knocks on my door. At first I don't answer, but then it gets annoying, so I let her in.
"Tyler, can we please talk?"
"..." I look at her.
"Look. I'm sorry for earlier. I'll pay you back." She says.
"It's not about the money." I say. She asks if she can sit. I let her in and she sits on the chair next to my chair. She looks at me, "What is it then?"
"It's about the fact that I wanted to make a promise to you. And now I can't. That's what made me mad. Not the money." I gave a sort of, half smile half frown, all while still looking frustrated. Chloe places her hand on mine. At first I tug my hand away, but then I accept it. Chloe puts her hand on my chin and looks me in the face,
"Hey. You know what?" She asks. She puts her hand back down from my face.
"What?" I ask her.
"I promise that no matter what, no matter what happens to us, that we'll always, always be together, and that we'll always be friends, no matter what. Do you promise?" She smiles, and I smile to.
I lean in, she leans in too. We kiss. I through her up on the bed. We continue to kiss and then when our lips detach from each other, she lays her head on my chest. We laugh.
"I promise."
