The day started normally. Children were playing, people were living. All were oblivious to the current happenings of that day. They all didn't know that the fate of their children's dreams lies on the shoulders of a teen; the one and only Jack Frost.

December 21st, the winter solstice. The winter solstice is the most powerful day for the guardians, especially for North, who is also known as Santa Claus, and Jack Frost. Unbeknowst to the guardians, another magical entity was also fueled with power during the winter solstice. That entity is Pitch the Boogeyman.

Pitch suddenly launched a massive attack that overpowered Sandman while the latter was doing his job. The Sandman, frail and weak as he was since he was extremely tired that night, was injured badly and consequently was unable to hold a physical body. That was a week ago. Sandman still cannot recover due to exhaustion and the infusion of the poison in the Boogeyman's new sand. The Sleep Guardian's remaining sand is kept in an hourglass protected by North himself. After the attack on Sandman, the guardians had gathered and searched for Pitch's domain. They all searched and searched but they were unable to find the dark domain. That is, until the solstice came and Jack found Pitch's lair.

Jack Frost knew the risk of facing Pitch alone. He knew all too well that a one-on-one confrontation doesn't end well, and that's from experience. So, he notified the guardians and stood in waiting at the mouth of the cave that may or may not lead to the dark domain. However, while waiting for the other guardians to arrive, Jack Frost  was suddenly thrown to the ground, attacked by a dark horse. It was Pitch's favorite minion.

"Pitch!" Jack yelled, freezing the wild horse. "Show yourself!"

After having Jack Frost defeat many of his dark horses, Pitch showed himself, but he did not step out of the cave, choosing instead to stay under the cover of the darkness.

"Jack, what a surprise to see you here." Pitch sarcastically commented. "I must say that you treated my horses very...gently. It's a shame since they were very beautiful. They had a form, you see, graceful and with class compared to these ravaging sands."

With a flick of his wrist, Pitch sent a huge wave of dark sand and directed them at Jack. The Guardian tried to flee but he soon found out that the sand honed in on him, following him like a missile to his target. Moments later, Jack was surrounded by the sand and disappeared without a sound. Pitch turned his back, intending to disappear and continue his interrupted work when he felt the waves of his dark sand freezing. Slowly at first then rapidly freezing. With a grunt, he turned. Standing in the middle of the frozen sand was Jack Frost.

"Hey Pitch, did you know?" Jack smirked and threw a snowball at the Boogeyman who, in turn, dodged it. "Today's December 21st. You know what that means right?" The snowball that Pitch dodged suddenly stopped in midair and became a big snowflake. The snowflake silently released icicles that attacked Pitch who had barely managed to evade it. "I'm stronger than you Pitch." Jack created more snowballs. "I'll avenge Sandman and defeat you."

"Defeat me?" Pitch laughed then frowned. "Don't get cocky, Jack Frost. You're not the only guardian to harness the power of the Moon. I also get stronger with the winter solstice's powers!"

For the first time that day, the Boogeyman came out of the shadows, materializing a spear in his hand and attacking Jack Frost with it. Jack countered the spear with his icy staff.

"Using a spear now, Pitch?" Jack taunted. " You certainly have gotten weaker."

"On the contrary, Jack Frost," Pitch smiled wickedly. "Using a medium for my abilities is better for my hands. It helps relieve stress from the hands, you know? Not to mention that I can unleash my powers to my heart's desire."

Pitch and Jack continued to fight for a long time. Jack was beginning to wonder what took the other guardians so long. On his own, Jack stood no chance of overpowering the villain, much less defeating him. He needed back-up, but back-up was nowhere to be found. Jack was only stalling now, holding his own until the others arrive.

After a long and strenuous sparring, both parties came to a stalemate. Both were panting heavily, exhausted and worn out. "My, my, Jack Frost," Pitch said. "You have certainly exceeded my expectations."

"I wish I could say the same about you, Pitch," Jack replied, "but I don't make it a habit to expect things from villains, you see. Who knows what'll I end up with?"

Pitch chuckled, shaking his head which confused Jack. "Much as I'd like to play with you today, Jack, I'm terribly sorry that I must disappoint. The other guardians are nearing this cave and I would really want this to be discreet." Pitch rubbed both of his palms together then and after a while, when he separated his hands, a ball of dark sand grew. "Farewell, Jack Frost. I assure you....this will be your end."

In spite of Pitch's threat, Jack still maintained a confident smile. "I guess I should end this too. I don't want to get help from Bunny."

Jack tapped the bottom of his staff at the ground and focused. Soon later, a gigantic snowflake rests underneath Jack's feet. Power was being accumulated in Jack's staff and the same can be said to Pitch's dark ball of nightmare sand.

"I will defeat you, Jack Frost!!!" Pitch cried, aiming the dark ball at Jack. On the other end, Jack remained calm, breathed and pointed the staff at Pitch, shooting a beam that clashed and countered the ball.

Upon the contact of their ultimate moves, both Jack Frost and Pitch were flung to the side, enveloped by the deep snow. There was a mighty flash, a collision sound, an explosion. The Guardian and the Boogeyman were both powerful, as seen by the by-product of their clash. The solstice did nothing but boost their powers, after all. The collision of the ball and the beam shook the mountain heavily, burrowing the two figures deeper into the snow.

Alas, Pitch was the first to regain his senses and Jack was still unconscious. He approached Jack and covered him with his nightmare sand. By the time Jack regained his consciousness, he was wrapped with the sand, numb to all feeling below his neck. Pitch looked around and smirked, dragging Jack to the vortex that the collision of his dark ball and Jack's ice beam created. The vortex was deep and cold and devoid of all feeling and color.

"I will not kill you, Jack Frost," Pitch still had Jack by the neck. "But I'm certainly hoping that wherever this portal leads, or the portal itself, will kill you." Pitch then flung Jack inside the vortex. "Farewell Jack Frost....I told you so." Pitch grinned wickedly and disappeared into the dark cave.

Jack plunged into the deep vortex. He felt that such a long time passed, free falling to his death. Still recovering from the shock of the collision, he tried to summon any feeling to his hands. Just to be safe, Jack thought of creating a sphere around him, protecting him from the fall. However, he soon discovered that he could not create any ice or snow. He was still numb and he was still falling. Unable to hold on any longer, Jack slipped put of consciousness, rather frustrated at himself and with the outcome he had helped create.
