Feriha raised her eyes and found Emir standing not far from her. He seemed to be inquisitive about her. He had expressive eyes, she could read his eyes rested over her but again he masked his eyes. She lowered her eyes before his gaze, keeping the book on the side table. She got up from her chair as Ceylin came towards her.
"Oh, Miss Aynur. We missed you. I wish you would have come with us' Ceylin told her excitedly. . "I missed you too, Ceylin.' Feriha avoided looking at Emir.
"Will you come with us too?'
"Yes Ceylin, but where are we going?'Feriha smiled into her small face.
"I am going to help Daddy to build snowman. You will also help him too, Miss Aynur?'
Before she could answer Ceylin;
"Have you ever played in the snow, Miss Aynur?' Emir steadily looked at her with his penetrated gaze as if would look into her heart straight away. She felt as if his eyes were daring her to say something. He was more cynical now. He only smiled when he was with his daughter. She knew she was treading on the dangerous grounds. She had to be calm and composed.
Whenever she had to face him, she had to stop herself to confront him. She had to suppress her anger for the sake of Ceylin. She knew children are very sensitive. She could never hurt Ceylin even in her dream. She evaded his eyes.
"Yes, Mr. Sarrafoglu. Few years back with my family." Somehow she was telling the truth. Emir was her family that time.
"Please come, Miss Aynur. It will be fun.' Ceylin insisted.
Feriha told Ceylin that they should change the clothes. As she was passing Emir to go upstairs, he murmured, too softly only for her ears, "did you sleep well, Miss Aynur?'
Her eyes flashed fire at him behind her glasses."Not particularly, no.'
"Guilty conscious?'
Suddenly she was tired of his verbal attack."I don't think I'm the one who should have a guilty conscious!'
He was quiet for a change."That I think can be debated later on, Miss Aynur.' but his eyes were challenging her. She knew it was calm before the coming storm.
Ceylin was getting impatient, she called Feriha from the stairs to hurry up. Feriha got the excuse to escape from Emir's following eyes.
Both changed their clothes to snow jackets and boots and went outside. It was bright, windless day. Temperature was just below the freezing point. Feriha took a deep breath of the cold fresh air. She felt as if she was alive once again.
They walked past the house to the top of the hill. Its slope was not much steep but deepened ending at a level field. Feriha looked at Ceylin.
"Where are you going to make your snowman,Ceylin?'
