She was reluctant to face Emir after last night. She was not used to drinks. It happened before when she was with Emir. Had she said something to him which gave away her pretence? She was wearing glasses; she didn't know how stunning she was looking in that dress. This morning she looked awful, her eyes looked tired, the face was white. But she had to face him.
For the first time she wondered what he wanted. Did he check on Miss Aynur's references in Polonezkoy? If he did then she was in trouble. She was in trouble with no way to escape. Perhaps Emir was afraid that Ceylin was getting too dependent on her. He wanted to dismiss her. She wanted this masquerade to end but she knew Ceylin would be hurt. She wanted to win her trust first. Perhaps after last night he might be thinking she was not fit to be his daughter's nanny. She was tense but then composed herself; it should be Emir who had to answer her. She could delay no longer. With head held high, she marched to study. She knocked at the door and entered the study.
Emir was seated at the desk, papers were scattered on."Close the door, would you mind? 'He said casually."Then sit down. I will be right with you. Just give me few minutes.' Emir wanted to take her in his arms but he resisted, stopped himself. Something was there in her which pulled him to her.
She sat on the chair near the fireplace as it was cold inside too. She needed excuse to control herself, to stop the trembling of her hands. His voice was calm, it didn't sound like he was going to fire her. Emir hardly ever lost his cool. It was she who was impulsive. Both were fire and ice.
"Would you like to have some drink?' He was standing near her. He looked handsome with laughter in his eyes.
She got angry with his calm attitude. 'If you are going to dismiss me then do it and get over with it. 'She was now fed up with this game.
"I did not call you here to dismiss you. Something was bothering me. Last night you didn't seem to have any problem in seeing that paintings. I remember you told me that you are blind as bat without your hideous glasses. Here you are always wearing those glasses.'
"Haven't you heard about the contact lenses, Mr. Sarrafoglu? I had put on my other glasses too. Perhaps you forgot to notice?'
"Come on, Miss Aynur! You can call me Emir now.' Emir spoke. 'You voice reminds me of someone whom I tried to forget but failed. Whenever I look at you she comes back and haunts me.'
'You want me to leave? If you don't mind my asking why are you running away from your past?' looking down she asked as if she was more interested in carpet design.
Emir looked at her hard, and then changed the subject. 'I would not like to have repetition of previous night again in my house,' he went on smoothly. "You will have three-four days off. It would be best for you too. Ceylon would not be dependent on you totally that way. You can spend them in Polonezkoy.'
