Rayne POV
" Guys we made it."
We made it to the human territory.
" Was it this creepy before?" Eve asked.
I looked around and realized what she was talking about. The people outside weren't as happy and joyfully walking around like they were a couple weeks ago.
" Who know, who cares. Let's just find Jarred and get out of here." Jason said.
I nodded.
" Where do we start?" Eve asked.
I closed my eyes and tried to focus on what Jarred smelled like.
When I got the tiniest little whiff of his scent, I snapped my eyes open and I could see the trail of his scent.
" His scent." I smiled and followed the trail.
" Rayne?"
" I can see his scent. You guys can't smell it?"
" We can but it's extremely faint. It's almost washed away and it's everywhere."
" Just follow me." I said.
They both nodded and followed me as I followed his scent trail.
***
I don't know how long we've been following this scent trail but it felt like hours.
" How much longer?"
" I don't know."
We all stopped to take a break. We bought slushies and sat down. Well Jason and Eve sat, I paced.
" It's some kind of trick, Rayne. I thought about it before but now I'm sure. We've been going around in circles."
" How?" I asked.
" We've passed a couple of things a couple of times."
I groaned I'm serious frustration.
"We've been going in freaking circled."
"Just calm down. I figured out a way to fall out of the trap." He said.
"Okay, how?"
"When you smell him, go to where his scent his stronger. That's as best as I can come up with."
"It's strong everywhere."
"It's got to be stronger in some places than others."
"Even if it is, how do I know?"
"You're his mate. You'd only know."
Of course.
I sighed and looked back out into the random scattered people out and about this time of night.
I closed my eyes and focus on Jarred's scent. When I smelled him again, I focused on it more to see where to go.
" Got it yet?" Eve asked.
" Shush." Jason hushed her,
I even tried listening a bit to see if I could hear even a little speck of his breathing.
Of course I didn't, I heard his heart beat instead so–wait, I got a heart beat!
" He's alive!" I yelled, relieved and ran for it.
" Rayne!"
I ran faster as his heart beat got louder and his scent got stronger.
