His hands clamped on the wheel as his eyes trained on the road before him.

I steered my attention away from him and looked down at a sleeping Leo in my arms.

I heaved a huge sigh in worry for the nth time since I have settled down in the car.

My heart was in a huge mess right now, so many emotions swirling inside of me.

Do I really have to make the choice just like five years ago and leave him for the sake of Leo's safety?

This was the first letter sent to me.

But, there would be much more of these threats unless I cave in and break free from Chase.

"What got you sighing since just now?" He asked, making me look at him. I shook my head, knowing that this was not a right time for a wedding.

If he finds out about our wedding, what he will do to us will be much worse. Why does he have to come after us when we were so happy now?

I closed my eyes briefly, feeling as the car pulled up by the curb. "Max said that the wedding photos will be edited and printed out by next week. I will fetch you to coll-"

I simply cut him off with a "no". I have already made up my mind and I would have to harden my heart in order to do this.

"What?" He asked, eyeing me with a raised brow with confusion. "I am calling off this wedding, Chase."

With that said, I climbed out of the car and headed back into my house with Leo still asleep in my arms.

I felt a tug on my arm as he turned me around to face me.

"What's wrong, babe? What is with your sudden decision to call off this wedding?"

I rolled my eyes in response. "It's a good thing we haven't registered our marriage yet."

His eyes widened, furrowing his brows instantly. "What do you mean?" He demanded, clenching his jaws in anger.

"It means we are over. Don't bother coming back for Leo either, he doesn't need a father like you." And with that, I turned my back on him and headed back to my house.

I gritted my teeth tightly, hardening my heart even though it was killing me by doing so.

I wanted nothing more but to be with Chase. But I have to make a choice this time in order to protect my son.

If I was forced to choose, I would choose my son's safety over Chase.

I sat down on my bed after changing into my nightdress. I moved over to check on my son who was still sound asleep on my bed.

We shared the same bed since he was too old to be sleeping in a cot.

I looked towards the forgotten cot. Seems like I would have to throw that away soon.

My phone rang as I picked it up by the nightstand. Chase's name flashed across the screen as my heart sunk in guilt.

My words had stung him hard and I had literally broke his heart.

Why did he still call me to remind me of how awful I was to him?

Leo stirred in his sleep as I rushed to remove the battery from the back instead. I chucked it aside on the nightstand and laid back down on the bed as I closed my eyes tightly.

My heart was torn into pieces, I knew very well of that.

This heart of mine will never be mended back again. I have chosen Leo over Chase this time.

Shifting to the side of the desk, I pulled out my drawer as I rummaged through the stacks of folders.

It has to be somewhere.

I remembered that the documents in the file was tucked somewhere in one of my drawers.

Where is it?

Heels clicking emerged from the background. "What is it?" I asked, not looking up.

"A man by the name of Chase demands to see you, ma'am."

I clenched my fists tightly to pull myself together and remind myself to harden my heart.

"Let him know that I don't want to see him." I replied through gritted teeth.

"Yes, ma'am." And she left the office, leaving me alone as I leaned against the chair.

A tear escaped from my tear duct as my heart felt hollow and empty again.

I have to do this, even though being with him always felt right. But Leo came along into my life, giving me the responsibility to protect him.

I have protected him five years ago by leaving him.

And I will do the same five years later to him again in order to protect my little bundle of joy.

I reached out for the photo frame, looking at the wefie I had taken with Chase five years ago.

My thumb lightly brushed across his face as he kissed my cheek in the picture.

I am sorry, Chase.

The door suddenly swung open, making me hastily wipe away my tears as I placed the photo frame back to its place.

"Ma'am, that man is destroying the restaurant right now. You have to come out immediately and stop him!"
