Since it was the weekends, I was still on leave and decided to take Leo out shopping.

Chase will be joining us later so for now, it was just his trusted men shadowing us from a good distance away.

I didn't mind at all, as long as it could keep us safe for the time being.

As I walked past a store, my eyes rested on the pair of sneakers that would fit Leo.

"Come on, Leo. You need a new pair of sneakers." I stated, pulling him into the store as we were surrounded by the staffs.

They were gushing over my handsome little boy, trying to play with him. I set Leo down on a couch and began to walk around the store to pick a right pair of sneakers for him.

For a moment, I was too engrossed that I didn't realised that he went missing.

"Ma'am, your child ran off." A staff approached me while I quickly ran out of the store as I searched high and low for my little boy.

"Leo!" I shouted, calling out his name as I searched for him frantically.

Please, nothing must happen to him. Otherwise, I will live the rest of my life in guilt.

"Mama!" Leo's voice snapped me out of my reverie as I turned around to see Leo holding on to Dylan's hand as he licked his lollipop.

Dylan was one of Chase's trusted men who was shadowing us. Fortunately, he managed to bring Leo back.

"Thank you, Dylan." I sighed in relief before turning towards Leo as I nagged at him.

"Didn't I tell you not to leave with a stranger? Didn't I tell you not to take anything from a stranger?"

He began to cry in the middle of the shopping mall, making many heads whip our way.

I huffed, my hands on my hips as I ignored his cries and scolded him.

"What did my little boy do to make you scold him?" Chase asked, carrying Leo as he hushed him.

"Ask your son, don't ask me. Because of him, my life has cut short of ten years." I retorted, still hopping mad that he just wouldn't listen no matter how much I tried to teach him.

What would happen in the future, no one knows about it. That's why I wanted to train him from young not to follow strangers.

But he just won't learn.

This time, because of a stupid candy, he almost walked into a trap.

I headed back into the store, paying for the forgotten sneakers before joining Chase who was still cooing his wailing son.

I glared at him sternly, our eyes making contact. "Stop crying, Leo." His cries died down, turning into hiccups as he wiped away his tears.

Chase tugged on my hand and pulled me along with him. "He's just a kid, go easy on him."

"Go easy on him? Today because of a candy, he almost walked into a trap. If not for Dylan, he wouldn't have made it back." I huffed, trying hard to reason with him.

He was seriously pampering his son too much. And, I hated that.

He steered his attention back to his son and frowned. "Promise me, Leo. Don't follow a stranger even if they give you something."

He nodded, connecting his pinkie with his dad's as they sealed their thumbs together.

"Pinkie promise." He cheered in excitement as he stifled a yawn.

He wrapped his arms around his dad's neck and laid his head against his broad shoulder.

I observed the sight before me, Chase carrying Leo in his arms while he fell asleep.

It was a dream come true.

And I was not going to let anyone break this beautiful portrait, not even Roderick. I have to stay strong to protect my family.

I laid down on the bed with Leo asleep in my arms. The spot beside me dipped as Chase climbed onto the bed.

I looked at him to see creases along his forehead. "You are frowning, what's the matter?"

He shook his head, smiling at me. "Let's go on a family outing, just you, me and Leo."

"A family outing?"
