Alright. Is this a little preview on the upcoming new plot twist 😈? Just kidding, Mark is only passing by, or is he? Enjoy ^.^
——————————————————(Nogla POV)
I put my head down on the table. I felt lifeless, without any energy or any taste to live anymore. He truly was gone, and with him my heart."David? Boss wants to talk with you."
I just shrugged at Mike's words. It took me a few more minutes before I stood up and walked to my boss office.
"You wanted to talk with me?" I asked tiredly.
"This is Mark, your new partner."
I looked where he was pointing at, spotting smaller red haired man. He grinned at me and waved.
"Pleasure to meet you!" He greeted me with smile.
I refused to have anyone beside Lui next to me, and I strongly refused to have this smaller half Korean stranger who looked like more like model then like an FBI agent.
"I don't need new partner. I have Lui," I stated, still staring at that man.
"Lui left. You need somebody else, and Mark here was recommended by higher authorities."
I punched the wall next to me, just to suppress the pain inside me from his words.
"I don't need another partner," I repeated again.
"I'm not asking you, David. Take Mark with you and show him his new office."
I stormed out of the room without minding my new partner.
"Wait for me, fella!" He shouted behind me.
I turned myself to him, unleashing the inner fury to the innocent man.
"I ain't yer fuckin' fella! I don' need no partner, understood?"
Something changed in his eyes, the way he looked at me, just for a mili second. But before I could react on that, or just remember what had changed, he smiled.
"I'm not Lui, and I'm not trying to be like him. I heard that you're one the best in this profession. We don't need to talk about our problems, or needs. I just want to have a chance to show you that I'm not completely useless," he said in calm deep voice.
He deserves to be treated better. He's just unlucky to be assigned as my partner.
"Lui is coming back. But 'til that time I can show ya yer office."
I walked into the Lui's office, which made me even sadder. All things were gone. No papers, no files, no documents, no leftover food, no many more things, no Lui.
"Your office, I guess," I said to him.
I had to walk away, I couldn't stand the sight on the empty room. I turned myself to the door, when he stopped me.
"Wait! I'm really hungry. Wanna take something to eat? Please?"
"I ain't the best companion to hang out right now," I excused myself.
"Yeah, ok. Just... go..."
His voice hit my ears, and I felt so bad for him. I could imagine how he was, I was feeling almost the same when they assigned me to Lui.
"Grab your things, I'm hungry as well."
He looked at me with smile, then followed me out. I sensed the pitiful stares everybody was giving me, and I hated it. We silently walked into my favorite family restaurant not far away from my job, where I wanted to take Lui every day.
I greeted some employees, and we sat down. I didn't even needed to order, they knew me too well.
"Hello, my name's Emily. What can I get ya?" Waitress asked Mark.
"Uhh... number eighteen please. And a beer."
"Ok. Happy to see you again, David," she replied, looking at me.
I just smiled at her, not having a single strength to do anything else. She was really positive person, she didn't deserve to be pulled in my depression talk. I watched her walked away.
"You're here quite often, I would say." My new partner decided to have a chat with me.
"Yes," I whispered.
"Tell me one thing. Is it true?" He asked, lowering his voice.
"What?"
"That you know how Delirious looks like," he whispered, and I frowned.
What? Who told him that? That supposed to be a secret! Who knew about it? Only two people. George and Lui.
"Who told ya this bullshite?" I asked, letting my accent pour into my speaking.
"You don't have to get mad because I asked," he said quickly, and Emily brought us food.
Once she walked away, Mark leaned closer to me.
"That chick is into you, she's eyeing you this whole time," he informed me with a smirk.
I quickly looked around to meet Emily's eyes. She immediately looked away, and I sighed.
"Just eat," I commanded softly.
"So is it true? You know how he looks like? I need to know!"
The tone of his voice made me frown again. He was too pushy, too demanding.
"Why do you need to know?" I asked slowly, taking another bite of this precious food.
"That's private thing. Let's eat then."
Why that change all of the sudden? And why is he interesting so much in Delirious? Is he the same as Lui was? Hunting Delirious down? I don't care anyway. I need to find Lui, my Lui. Wherever he is.
