"Prince Charles has sent a messenger bird about Princess Cecily's progress." Estelle began her morning routine. She would catch me up on everything that happened around the kingdom and especially the palace.
I nodded. "How is she?"
"Good." Estelle smiled. "Especially considering that she kidnapped you and tried to kill you last year."
I chuckled. "How times have changed." I mumbled quietly.
"The Lords and Ladies are almost all gone. Also considering that you are leaving tomorrow morning for Equites. Lord Greyson, Lord Carlton and Lady Sansa are the only ones remaining. They will be departing tonight." Estelle ticked that off her list.
I nodded happily. "Estelle, I'd like to have a private word with Lord Greyson before he departs tonight. Perhaps in the meeting room?"
She nodded and wrote that down. "Also, the blacksmith and the builders are arriving tomorrow after your departure to add two more chairs to the Throne room. Which will be renamed the Council Room."
I smiled. "Wonderful. Estelle," I looked to her as the maids finished getting me ready. "whilst I am at the Academy I am putting you in charge."
Her eyes widened and I smiled kindly at her, hoping to soften the blow. "M-me?"
I nodded. "I trust your decisions and I hope you confide in George. You and him must work as a team and bring the good name back to dwarves."
She nodded. "Yes your grace."
"Wonderful. Is that all Estelle?" I asked her.
For a moment she was frozen, like a statue I had to wave my hand in front of her eyes. Nothing. So I snapped my fingers. She shut her eyes then opened them again.
"Your grace?" She asked and I nodded. "Oh one more thing. The glass makers will be here to fix the window in the newly anointed Council Room."
I blushed the deepest of reds. "Thank you Estelle."
"That is everything your grace." She curtsied. "I will arrange for your meeting with Lord Greyson at sunset. Tristan is currently in the library. Lieutenant William's is out horse riding with Abigail and John. Their brother. Mrs Montreal and Mr Montreal are in the sitting room with baby, Hemlock. Most of the masters are currently residing in the fields, having a picnic. Is there anyone else you'd like to know their location?"
I shook my head. "No, thank you Estelle."
She curtsied and hurried off, leaving me to myself.
My maids smiled at me, they must've been new because I had never seen them before. Not when I was a servant here.
"There is no time like the present is there?" I mumbled to myself and stood up. "Thank you ladies. Please pack my trunks for Equites."
"Yes your grace." They both curtsied to me.
I smiled and left them to the packing. There was one person I need to speak to and he was currently in the library. Slowly I made my way to the library and had the Queen's guard open the doors for me. I shouldn't be nervous to speak to him, he was Tristan. My best friend.
"Tristan?" I called out.
At the second level, he looked over the balcony and nodded to me. "Your grace."
"May I have a word with you?" I asked.
He nodded. "Of course. You may have many words with me. Choose the word wisely if you'd like a word with me."
I furrowed my brows and slowly made my way up the stairs to him. "What is the matter with you? Ever since the moment after I arrived you have been cruel and distant. You- you have your Dark Lord facade on. You do not smile to me, you do not joke with me and you do not speak to me. What have I done to displease you? Whatever it is, it should be put in the past. Now is the present, and we look to the future. In that future, I'd like to see my friend smiling at me and being happy with me."
He looked up from his book and now to me, standing right in front of me.
"I-if this is about William I want you to know something." I took a deep breath. "I care for William. So much so I think I love him." His dark eyes looked right at me, with no emotions. The one I was dealing with now, was the Dark Lord. Not Tristan. "O-one day I wish to marry him. To have many children with him and have my own family." I smiled at Tristan. "Tristan, I would love to have my own happy family. With you in the picture. B-but if you are mad at me and do not want the best for me, you are not in that picture. If you want the best for me, Tristan, my friend, my best friend you must know that William is the best for me. H-he makes me happy and loves me for me. Not for my crown. But me." I smiled happily resting my hands on his forearms. "Please Tristan, be my friend again. I dislike seeing the Dark Lord facade when it is directed at me. I-I want to make you part of my council but I do not want to be arguing with my council me and women."
He shut the book with a loud thud. "What will you be telling your two mates?"
I turned away from him. "I do not wish to speak of it."
"Gwen?" He asked, that was Tristan. His voice sounded genuinely concerned for me and I knew he was. There was a gut feeling telling me he was. "What's the matter?"
I shook my head. "Tristan, please don't go further into this. Right now, I just want to know if you are once again there for me. Or am I begging you for now reason, now?" Slowly I turned around to look at him. "Are you my friend Tristan?"
Slowly his mouth turned up into a crooked smile. "Lord Stupid is always here for you. No matter what."
I jumped right into his arms and squeezed him tightly. His wrapped his arms around me tightly and didn't let go.
