She woke up early on Sunday morning, although, she would have loved to sleep in. Today was her first Quidditch match and she was downright nervous. She forced cereal down her throat, but stopped when she felt like vomiting it. Cho Chang was continually reassuring her, telling her it would be fun and that she would love it; however, she too didn’t finish her plate.

Roger Davies had gone wild in the dressing room: he was running around like a headless chicken, barking incoherent orders to everyone that stood in his way. Stress was running so high, it was almost electrifying. Only one person seemed to keep calm, and that was Bradley, a square-built chaser. He kept telling everybody to relax and made jokes even though nobody listened. Finally, it was time for the captain’s speech. It was very short and lacked enthusiasm. For the past few years, Ravenclaw had always come close to winning the cup, but Gryffindor was the one to snatch it in the end. Bradley knew how to use this to their advantage:

"Who wants to kick Potter’s ass this year?"

The team cheered loudly.

"Good, then let’s do it! But first, shall we cream the puffs?"

That was all the spirit the team needed. They headed out on the court, proud and as ready as they could be. Maria was amazed at all the noise and almost forgot to mount her broom in time. It was even better than in her dreams. The crowd was roaring, divided into two colors: blue and yellow. Madam Hooch’s whistle was heard through all the noise, and Maria immediately started aiming bludgers to the other team’s players. ‘Today, she thought, there are no excuses.’ She was so concentrated; she didn’t pay attention to Luna’s commentary. She therefore had no clue what the score was, so she just kept whacking bludgers as hard as she could. Each time a Hufflepuff chaser got close to the hoops, she would fling one towards him to cut his concentration for a few seconds; which was often enough to prevent them from scoring. She also had to defend her own team mates. It made a lot to think about at the same time, but Maria didn’t mind; she loved every second of it. Sometimes, she even hit the bludgers so hard, they left the quidditch pitch and came back only a few seconds later. However, she tried her best not to do it: she wanted to keep the bludgers close, so that if someone was about to score, or if the seeker had spotted the Snitch she could fire one at them.

The game went on for about an hour and a half, but to Maria it seemed to last about three minutes. Everything went so fast. The other seeker saw the snitch so Cho started to tail him. Thinking fast, Maria yelled ‘DON’T MOVE CHO!’ and taking her aim, she smashed a bludger to the Hufflepuff seeker. To avoid it, he had no choice but to move away, leaving the Snitch all for Cho. She grabbed it a few seconds later, and Madam Hooch’s whistle was heard for the second time. Maria didn’t hear what she said, but by the reaction of her team, she knew they had won. She happily joined the commotion as people were giving her pats on her back, hugging her and ruffling her hair. She saw Cho, who mouthed the words ‘Thank you’, smiling widely. They had won!

The team headed back to the changing rooms, hopping and singing. ‘Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw, always done without a flaw!’ The singing continued in the common room, where everybody was beaming and congratulating the team. Only then did Maria realize how much Quidditch meant to the students at Hogwarts.

"If we play like that against Slytherin and Gryffindor, there’s no way were losing the Cup this year!" Davies said with a huge smile stretched on his face.
