With the wounded freshly evacuated we dug in. In the far distance we could hear Germans over at there camp. We could here there tanks and occasionally there voices. Mostly we heard there tanks. I still couldn't believe that they had attacked us then bombed us. Suddenly over the horizon I could see there tanks coming our tanks lined up ready. We hadn't noticed the tank that had flanked us and it fired first. Blowing up the first tank the other three fell back. Only to be knocked out. The force of the explosion knocked me down. Ballence ran over to me and yelled," Ack Ack get up come one we gotta get to HQ!" So I stood up and sprinted to HQ.
I was still yelling into the radio that we were being over run when Ack Ack ran by. They were heading for HQ. We were 50 feet from HQ. Me and three other men had set up a fire base. With a 30 cal and a morter. I was standing there yelling on the radio.
Finally Grinder came running back from HQ and I told him that we had orders to pull back. He said,"Sid go spread the order meet at HQ!" So Sid went running. Ack Ack was running out of HQ with a bunch of our maps in a box. Ballence followed carrying the same thing. They loaded it up on a jeep and went back in for more. They came running out this time with ammo boxes loading then on the jeep. Then Sid and the rest came back we loaded everything on trucks and then loaded ourselves. Then we left. As we left bullets whizzed passed us. A few striking fellow soldiers. One bullet hit the box with the maps and they almost fell off. When suddenly a man caught them. Well not the a man but Grinder you know.
