-Patrick's POV-
With playoffs right around the corner the stress was mounting. This team was good, if we didn't win it all this year I don't think we ever would. Niemi has been a force in net and now that we have Hossa I kinda feel like anything is possible. I sit in the locker room at the UC and wait to face the Preds in the first round of the playoffs. We weren't a experienced team by any means. But after last year we knew what we needed to do. I sit in my stall completely silent before I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look up to snap because I was in one of those moods but I'm met with the love of my life and quickly calm down.
"I don't know if you know this, but there's this guy on this very team who always seems to freak himself out even though he is a great player. He even sits at this very locker" Skylar mentions sitting herself in my lap. I crack a smile and wrap my arms around her, I needed to see her in the worst ways possible.
"How'd you know that I needed you" I ask a little surprised but honestly not at all.
"I had a feeling" she shrugs as I let out a sigh. "Why do you do this to yourself" she asks with sad eyes.
"I don't know. Not everyone can be positive like you" I respond.
"Okay Mr. Grumpy pants. Tell me this. Who lead the team in points this season" she asks.
"Me" I say.
"Okay, so in your third year in the league you average more than a point per game and you are one of, if not the, most elite play playmaker" she reminds me.
"Yeah, I guess you're right" I admit.
"So why do you doubt yourself? It's not going to be all perfect all the time. You're going to lose games or have a bad game personally, that doesn't make you a bad player. Trust in yourself and the good things will come" she assures me. I nod and she kisses my cheek. How could I get through this without her?
"Well my family and your family are out there probably wondering where I went because I was supposed to be in the bathroom so I should head back. Good luck and I love you. Kick ass" she says before springing out my lap and out the door. I watch her walk away and already start to miss her. Man, she got me wrapped around her finger.
"Was that Skylar" Jonny asks as and I nod. "Damn, Natalie won't shut up about how much she misses her. I can take it from you because it's hours at a time and I have become very good at ignoring your whining, but Natalie really misses her" he laughs.
"She has that affect on people" I say.
"You good man" Jon asks looking for any signs of a problem.
"I am now" I smile as I can still feel where Skylar's lips were on my cheek.
We take to the ice for warm ups and attorney to break a 49 year drought.
We get past the Predators and Canucks in six games and head back to the Western Confrence Final to face the San Jose Sharks. We wouldn't have home ice advantage but it didn't bother us none, we were just as good on the road as we were at home. I sit at a nice restaurant next to Skylar and across from Jonny and Natalie and Abby and the less cool Patrick. We enjoy a nice steak and talk about anything that wasn't hockey. It's important to know that the good teams don't see each other as work only, rather a family. We want to be around each other, on and off the ice. Patrick was one of my closest friends and Jonny was the one guy I would want next to me in any type of situation. We were such a great team because we wanted to be at practice getting better, learning for Joel and each other. We were no longer nervous, we were just getting started. We couldn't wait to be on the ice and do what we do best. Jonny has had a great post season, he's in the middle of this great point streak and we were in a good position.
"When are you two getting married" Natalie asks and I freeze. I told Jonny that I was going to purpose soon but if we won the cup I would do it then. I turn to Jon and he looks just as terrified as myself.
"When the time is right we will get married. I can ask you two the same thing considering you've been together longer" Skylar says and I see Jonny blush.
He loved Natalie a lot more than he was willing to admit and wanted to ask her to marry him soon. We move away from the conversation of marriage much to my pleasure and get back to hockey. "To a Stanley cup" Skylar says and we all raise our glass.
"To a Stanley cup" we cheer and enjoy each other's company.
That night we head back to the hotel and I join Skylar in bed. Her light brown hair sits atop her her head in a bun and her vibrant green eyes stare at me.
"I'm proud of you" she says and I let a smile grow. That meant a lot coming from her.
"Thanks" I say wiping the hair out of her face.
"I'm serious. What you have been able to do while in this organization, its incredible. You have to see it. You guys are so close, just 8 more wins and you'll have all the glory" she says tracing my jaw line. She knew that was my weakness.
"Promise that when we do win, you'll find your way into my arms as fast as possible" I say quietly.
"I always do" she smiles.
