*Aurora's POV*

I woke up the morning after my parents arrived home safe, feeling like something was wrong. The whole house was quiet, still. Nothing was happening, and that's usually not the case in Evans' household, especially at seven in the morning.

I sat up in bed, and listened for a few more minutes. It was still quiet.

I walked into the kitchen, wondering where my family was. No one was in the kitchen, or in the living room, or in their bedrooms, or in the bathrooms.

Is it my birthday? Is this some kind of surprise, or a joke?

No one was home.

Where could they be? I called Kayla, and asked her if they were with her or at her house, and she said no. All my other friends and relatives were out of town, so where could they go?

I called Zayn, and he came over immediately. He said something on the phone about this probably being a serious situation. I was scared, because usually, they'd either leave a note, or tell me if they were leaving.

There was a knock on the door. It must be Zayn. I opened the door for him to enter.

"Hey, Zayn." He came inside, "I really have no clue where they could be."

He sat down at the breakfast table, and grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl in the middle.

"It might be the Council."

"Wha-"

The ringing of his phone cut me off. He answered it, resting his apple on the table.

"Hello...... Oh...... Yeah, she noticed........ Okay. I'll tell her that." He hung up after that, and sighed heavily.

"What? What's wrong?" I remembered how he spoke about the Council, mentioning one incident where they took some people hostage. I was starting to get worried.

"The Council has your family hostage." He started, "They want you to become a vampire, and if you don't, they might- they might kill your family."

My heart crumpled, and folded up into a tight ball. How could they? How could he?

"I'm sorry. I have no say in this."

He as telling the truth, but that didn't change the situation. I just got my parents back, and now, they get kidnapped.

"Are you sure they have them?"

He pulled up a live video stream of my parents, and George sitting on chairs, doing nothing.

"Oh, God." I muttered, frightened by what I saw.

I thought for a second. If I don't give in, they'll probably kill them, but if I give in, they'll be fine. I can't imagine being a vampire, but I can't imagine life without my family. They're my life. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't try to save them.

"Will you do it? Will you turn me?" I asked taking in a deep breath. He nodded, looking me in the eyes.

"Okay. Just tell them I'll do it." He picked up his phone, typed in a few words, and then put it back down. He was being very calm about all of this.

"I'm ready." I muttered. What if this kills me? Would they still let my family go?

I stopped him when there was only an inch of space between us, my breath hitched in my throat.

"Be careful. Please." He nodded slightly, and moved his fangs closer to my neck. I could feel him breathing. I could hear him thinking. 'Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it.'

"I'm sorry." He muttered, his breath fanning my sweaty neck, and his hands grabbing on to my waist tightly.

That's when he did it.

I could feel myself growing stronger, but I could also feel the pain. It hurt, but satisfaction came from knowing that my family will be safe.

He finally pulled out.

I couldn't breath properly for a few minutes, but eventually, I calmed down.

I'm a vampire now. I don't think I'll ever get used to this, but who knows? That's what I said about Zayn, and look at me now. I didn't want to do this, but it was for a good cause.

"Zayn, are they coming home now?"

"Yeah." That was all I got from him, a simple 'yeah'.

He went back to playing around with his phone.

"So................. The Council wanted to 'recruit' me, yeah?"

Once again, he nodded. What a silent creature he is.

"How does this work? How do I have dreams for your clan?" I propped my elbows up on the island.

"Our." He said.

"What?"

"It's our clan now." He replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Oh. You mean I belong to this clan." I leaned forward a little bit more.

"Nope. I mean it's yours. Since you were turned by a pure blood vampire, you become one of the members of the Council."

"How can you tell I'm from our clan?"

"By this." He grabbed my wrist, and rolled my sleeve up. There was a small tattoo-looking picture of a rain drop, or it could be a drop of blood, "Vamps in the lower ranks have different marks."

He continued to explain the ins and outs of the vampire society before my family arrived back home. When they came back, they didn't seem to remember being kidnapped. I guess, someone brainwashed them, not that I'm complaining. I wouldn't know how to explain what just happened.

Zayn spent the rest of the day with me. We went to the beach, then we stopped by the ice cream parlor on the beach. The day was actually enjoyable.

It reminded me of that time Zayn and I talked for the whole night. It was a bummer that he had to leave. I loved spending time with him, because he understood me.

We're complete opposites, but at the same time, we're exactly the same.
